Re: FRC engines vs humans

When we compare standard chess to Chess960 there is only one good logical thing that we have to keep in mind when we use computer versus human, and that is that computer in standard chess uses large opening databases that it is impossible for any super GM like Carlsen or GM Nakamura to memorize ALL...

Re: Return Match for Komodo

[ Ok, my I7 laptop which is nearly 2 years old gets about 4100 knps, so that's another handicap. Still, even with five to one time odds, no ponder, White every game, no opening book, and slow hardware you did well to get some points with equal material. Maybe it's not too hard to make draws with Wh...

Re: chess 960 engines vs humans

Logically I would have thought so, because the human can't rely on memorised opening theory, but if that is true in practice I don't know. Perhaps the next Komodo vs human match can be chess960.... not that that would answer the question, but it would be good nevertheless :) When we compare standar...

Re: Return Match for Komodo

I ran an informal match between Komodo 32-bit on a Pentium III (1.13 GHz notebook, 16mb hash, no tables bases or opening book) against a talented junior, rated 2100 two weeks ago. We played several handicap matches with the human getting 5'+3" and the engine getting either 5'+3 (with a handicap) or...

Re: What do you think the value of the Queen should be ?

The elo gap between Carlsen and Nakamura is 67 at classic chess tc and 55 at Rapid, so about 60 at our time control of 45 + 15. Since we won the match from Nakamura, I would say the same handicaps are appropriate for Carlsen, although he might have nearly equal chances. At 90' + 30" he would be fav...

Re: What do you think the value of the Queen should be ?

Another idea if you want bigger handicap but still smaller than a knight is an opening like 1.Nc3 d5 2.Nxd5(knight for a pawn) opening like 1.e4 a6 2.Bxa6(bishop for a pawn). If you do not like to remove pieces then maybe you can try something like the following position [D]1nbqkbn1/rppppppr/p6p/8/...

Re: What do you think the value of the Queen should be ?

George, did you know you could enclose your PGN with tags and make your posts fit one page rather than 30? [PGN] insert your PGN here [/PGN] Thanks, now I would like to see different people taking different odds according to their rating and try hard very hard to win against either Komodo or Stockf...
