Re: Weird error

the only way i could fix problems like this to catch the crash, save a crush dump, open it in debugger. Then you can see exact instruction that causes the crash, and all the register values. As was mentioned above, this is probably array going out of bounds; but without catching this "in the act", y...

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

Fizbo 1.7 is aggressive: i suppose that is good. But i have no control over playing style - it is driven by evaluation, where all the coefficients are automatically tuned (using variation of Texel's approach). TCEC: i think some options (threads, hash, syzygypath) are not passed by the GUI correctly...

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

Sorry about this: i think these problems are caused by illegal moves on PV. This did not come up before, when PV was short.

I just changed the executables to fix this situation; i hope the fix works. And i will continue cleaning this up for next release.

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

Updated executables are uploaded to https://sites.google.com/site/fizbochessengine/

Now all moves reported by engine should be legal.

Also, as suggested by Ingo Bauer, i added nps to the output, and make PV longer (up to 8 moves).

Everything else is unchanged.

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

I'll remove illegal PV move and upload updated executables within 1 hour. Hopefully this will fix this problem.

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

I hope it is more. But in the past i overstated strength improvements several times, so i wanted to avoid it now. I did my testing at shorter time controls (40/4, running 8 games at a time on 4 cores with hyper-threading), and it showed around +100 ELO vs Fizbo 1.6. But i was not sure this would hol...

Thanks for suggestions.

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

I'll look into these items and see if i can address them in the next version. Off the top of my head now: 1. short PV: this is a known limitation. I never felt a need for longer PV, so i never bothered to make it longer. 2. in Winboard, GUI shows NPS, calculated from nodes and seconds, so i never mi...

Re: Fizbo 1.7 is released

>what kind of large pawn patterns did You manage to implement? main large pawn pattern was this: all possible combinations of 2 pawns of the same color. E.G., white pawn on A3 and another white pawn on B3 is feature #1, with a weight; white pawn on A4 and another white pawn on B3 is feature #2, with...

Fizbo 1.7 is released

Fizbo version 1.7 has just been released and can be downloaded from https://sites.google.com/site/fizbochessengine/. Changes from version 1.6 are: 1. Add support for 6-piece SYZYGY tablebases, including option "EGTBProbeLimit" - set to 5 by default - that allows one to only use 5-pieces (or 4-piece)...
