Re: AlphaWhat?

People get so involved in discussions about ELO, TBs and TimeControls and other technicalities, they forget the basics of chess. If you just go through the Games as a chess player, its completely obvious that Stockfish was completely out-classed and simply didn't have a clue about what was going on...

Re: New computer suggestions please

I used not to recommend eBay because there are few bargains to be had, but the ex-lease systems are a good deal. I think you could possibly do even better, price/performance wise, by buying used Xeon CPUs, which are reasonably cheap. You can even find somewhat newer ones like the v2 and v3 series (...

Thanks for the interesting match, can you please share the pgn file for all the games? If the Filedropper link posted twice in this thread doesn't work for you here's an alternative link: PGN Houdini 6 wins this match with all these tough positional fights. It is clearly favorite over Komodo in a p...

Re: TCEC 10

Stockfish games are difficult to understand: it plays one pawn less with black and still wins 3000-3100 opponents :o . Beautiful game of Stockfish in Rybka-SF on Stage 1 round 5, SF played like Karpov or Petrosian. Nothing explosive nor something special happened but black wins because white is in ...

Hited?! I assume you mean it peaked at 4523. What happens after the 2 minute mark?
Lol using an iPhone 8 for chess - even just benchmarking it - is like putting a horse and wagon on a highway.

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

No, I re did the test this time closing everything that was opened.... it hit over 6'000 kn/s but after about 30sec dropped to around 5'000 kn/s. After 1 minute, it was @ 4'742 kn/s . The A11 chips seems amazingly powerful ! Smartphones are not meant for chess. Phones in many cases have awful cooli...

Re: TCEC 10

I don't know about other engines, but mine can't even use 22 cores efficiently. I mean, it will get some nps gain over 10 cores, but it is going to start to have idle threads because of YBWC. Not to mention all the memory contention issues. It would be worse on 44 threads. --Jon Just go to Lazy SMP.

Re: Human versus Machine

Comparing 'The Secret of Chess' and 'Human versus Machine: How to beat Stockfish and Komodo', I wrote the latter much quicker, the former took whole 4 months, but the interesting thing is how notions presented in 'The Secret of Chess' are visible in the games showcased in 'Human versus Machine'. Fo...

Re: Human versus Machine

Saw the 10 preview pages and you wrote about winning against stockfish 4 with stonewall .Well, Stonewall is notoriously drawish opening (since dinosaur age )against computers, of course at least 99% good players already knew and might have tried against computer already. (similar to a player nicked...

Re: Houdini 6 has been released

Current top engines (and in fact any regular chess engine developed over the last 70 years or so) have nothing to do with weakly solving the game. That's a very strong incorrect statement. Alpha-beta search was extensively used in the checkers proof, along with tablebases (which you know about) and...
