Re: AMD Ryzen R9 3950X new build

Even 64 Cores Users on Playchess are unable to beat me in LTCs ... I love seeing "me" in your post. Are you doing anything at all? I mean, you're running an engine written by others, using a NN trained by others, on hardware that most users simply can't afford. Are you at least supplying an ...

Re: Stockfish 10 was released 29.11.2018

I did have something weird with Stockfish recently. I chose the latest build at the time for 4040 testing, and after 100 games it was -30 Elo to Stockfish 10. Yes I know that is a tiny sample, but the chances of it recovering that 30 Elo and gaining a further +30-40 Elo over the next couple of hund...

Re: Stockfish 10 was released 29.11.2018

Surprisingly now FishCooking forum has Preparing for Stockfish 11 thread :!: . Something under Christmas three? Great news if so :D IF you ask me SF has a problem. Enough of their recent simplifications seem to be regressions to cause a net regression. As long as they allow this to continue their p...

Re: AMD Ryzen R9 3950X new build

I would like to keep my question in the same thread. I have decided to buy a new computer to upgrade my chess analysis using LC0. If I buy 2 video cards (say RTX 2080) what processor would be reasonable to also run stockfish at the same time on a given position? My idea is to run analysis on a move...

Re: AMD Ryzen R9 3950X new build

I forgot to post the link to the consumer affairs reviews: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/computers/cyberpower_pc.html I wouldn’t trust the consumer affairs site. https://blog.ericgoldman.org/archives/2016/06/review-website-gets-hammered-in-court-consumer-cellular-v-consumeraffairs.htm Sounds like...

Re: AMD Ryzen R9 3950X new build

I just went to this site, and added on the stuff that I wanted: https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/AMD-Threadripper-Xtreme I went for a 1600 watt power supply and a 360mm water cooler, which limited my case options to just a few. That actually looks like a "reasonable" build at a not too expensive...

Re: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X new build

I purchased a MB and a cooler for my Threadripper build. The ASROCK MB in my previous post wasn't my first choice. I was only looking at it because the board I wanted was out of stock. I checked it again this morning and it was still out of stock but they offered to back order it with a week delay w...

Re: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X new build

Zen: That is great. The TR 3960X was the ideal processor I wanted all along. It gives the big step up in nps from what I currently have: 35.944.207 npd Intel Xeon E5-2686v3 @2.2GHz 36threads BMI2. (I have 2 X Xeon E5-2686v3 @2.2GHz = 36 cores). If your already running 36Mnps the 3960X would be the ...
