Re: test for pruning

Or, if you would prefer, I could play black and show you how it's done!

Re: test for pruning

Ovyron is always spouting off about how good his analysis is. This would be a good chance for him to show his "stuff". If he's up for the challange! Oh, sure, give me someone willing to defend the white side and I'll see what I can do :P For the record, I did get this to -2.50, but I have no idea w...

Re: For how long will Stockfish be competitive versus the best NN ?

But, I found a line specifically to avoid this position and ones like it. So, I'm pretty sure this position ( the original position posted by JDart) is won for black. The question is, would you have found *the winning moves* if you had slower hardware? The whole point to having fast hardw...

Re: For how long will Stockfish be competitive versus the best NN ?

I think this position is a better test and I would certainly like to see your analysis of it. I originally thought this would be a “hard” test, but now I'm not so sure how hard it is. I think “most” (meaning 50% or more) ICCF 2200 players can/would solve this if it occurred in one of their games. 4...

Re: For how long will Stockfish be competitive versus the best NN ?

I did a multiPV 6 after f5 to get whites best defense. Only the top 4 looked playable. I took the top white reply and am reverse analyzing it now. I'm not quite done yet but it looks like it will be about -10 or so. I'm pretty sure he is using 7-man. I tried it with 6-man and it was taking way too l...

Re: For how long will Stockfish be competitive versus the best NN ?

I am sure that there are positions that you will be slower in finding the best move by your methods otherwise you can get a huge software improvement by simply writing an engine that find the best moves faster. Show me one. Go and find a position where you need to give the engine a really long time...

Re: test for pruning

I have been looking recently at this position from an offline game: 4r3/5pk1/1q1r1p1p/1p1Pn2Q/1Pp4P/6P1/5PB1/R3R1K1 b - - Black played f5! and won. Arasan did not anticipate this move. It looks like excessive pruning is making it "blind" in this position. I have recently pushed a fix that scales ba...
