Re: Analyzing a position Ding-Firouzja wcup19

In the next game Firouzja played a risky opening in the hope of equalizing the score. After: rnb2rk1/p1q2ppp/1ppbpn2/8/Q1P1P3/2N2N2/PP2BPPP/R1B1K2R w KQ - 0 10 He played the pawn sacrifice c5. A few moves later: r1b2rk1/p1qnbppp/2p1pn2/2p5/Q3PP2/2N3P1/PP1NB2P/R1B2RK1 w - - 0 15 He went for pawn stor...

Re: Chest for Linux

This sounds like XBoard training mode. You load a game, select 'Training' in the Mode menu. From then on you can play a move. If it is not the one of the game you get a pop-up saying 'Incorrect move', and the entered move is ignored/taken back. If it is the move of the game, the move is accepted, t...

Re: Analyzing a position Ding-Firouzja wcup19

After two draws in classical time control , Firouzja lost both rapid games to Ding. First game reached here: 8/7p/1pr1pk2/pR6/P3KP1P/1P6/8/8 w - - 0 46 I thought draw was easy to reach. But White's rook became active and he got the upper hand: 8/8/KR6/p5k1/P7/1r6/8/8 b - - 0 59 I expected ... Ra3 wi...

Re: Chest for Linux

I am not sure what all this means. You choose to play a color. So who plays the other color? And when? And what? If the other color would never move, you would not be able to progress very far from the initial position... [...] Let's begin from here. In "replay training" user loads a game from a da...

Re: Chest for Linux

I have no idea what you mean by 'advanced replay training'. I don't have any ChessBase GUI. I know that XBoard (in addition to the possibility to 'auto-play' through existing games, or just step through those manually) has a 'training mode'. I have never used it, so I am not 100% sure what it does,...

Re: What kind of game is chess?

It is a tactical game, basically ? Or is it a strategic game? Or if it is a tactical one, is it mostly about Zugzwang? I was considering a post with a lot of interesting positions, but you guys do spend +way+ more time with these things than me, so why spend time? And I haven't seen this question d...

Re: Never thought that Alliestein was in the same level with LCZero and Stockfish !

[...] Yes, it was my impression too that Windows and OS/2 was designed to use DLL not to improve speed, but to save disk space. The intention was that similar API (libraries) inside the DLL file can be reused by most applications, hence saving small disk space. Sorry, I am not claiming I am technica...
