Re: Alphazero news

Matthew, thank you very much for participating in this thread! Everyone here should be grateful, that we are now getting the answers that were missing so much after releasing of the preliminary paper last December. Let's keep this discussion a technical one. With regards to this, I have a question,...

Re: Alphazero news

Hi Matthew, Nice to see you on the forum again! I was a big fan of your probability based search. In fact, shortly after you published your thesis I read it and my only confusion was why you did it in chess and not Go, so I wrote my B.Sc. thesis doing exactly that. Naturally, I was wondering whethe...

Re: Alphazero news

@Matthew IBM had a "whole series of GM's" training Deep Blue, for the Kasparov matchup. AlphaGo had one Go player as a consultant, I think. Has DeepMind used the services of any past or present GMs or IMs while creating A0 ? If yes, could we know who ? :D Yes we did have Fan Hui as a consultant for...

Re: Alphazero news

I actually have a lot of interesting science that still needs to be done Do something useful for this world. I have a some questions, is the number of 800 playouts per move during training has any correlations to the input model, network size or your training target? Essentially the training is try...

Re: Gradient Descent Introduction

Thanks both of you so far. Unfortunately my time is very limited, so there might be a delay for further posts. Now,first, i would like to follow Matthew's description and i would appreciate if you can guide me through. Let's start very simple, and say each training example has an input x (let's say...

Re: Alphazero news

I can be ofc wrong. You are :). I happen to have worked for both NVIDIA and Google, and I can confirm that neither knows much more about upcoming hardware from their competitors before release than the general public. If it was so common you wouldn't have Intel releasing a chip in a big event tauti...

Re: Alphazero news

@Mathew Lai The following pseudo code for Dirichlet noise seems to be wrong # At the start of each search, we add dirichlet noise to the prior of the root # to encourage the search to explore new actions. def add_exploration_noise(config: AlphaZeroConfig, node: Node): actions = node.children.keys()...

Re: Gradient Descent Introduction

Hello everybody, i am interested in a simple gradient descent implementation. Unfortunately i am not able to put the puzzle pieces together. Here is what i think that i understand and what i can do for now: base model: 1. i have a sample set of positions including results 2. i have a parameter list...

Re: Alphazero news

Matthew, could you divulge the size of the network file that A0 used ? The details are in supplementary materials I think what glenn meant by the question is how big the filesize is as in MB. Yep. How big is the filesize in MB? Not sure. We don't store the networks locally. They are just TensorFlow...
