Re: Creation of Opening books -- free to the community

Sloppy is an Xboard engine, not UCI. So it can't use and doesn't need Polyglot. Sloppy's opening book was built from this pgn file: http://cvs.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/contrib-SPECS/chessbook-medium/gm2600.pgn To get the exact same book I'm hosting on my site you'll just need to copy the pgn ...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

Fruit does some things on different ways compared with what i would call "common sense". If somebody says he took all fruit ideas, because they make sense and there are no better one for the own engine, it just shows a very weak knowledge skill about chess programming. Specialy i'm talking here abo...

Re: Some sloppy results

I find that the difference between ccrl 40/4 and 40/40 is usually extremely small and I rarely find cases of difference of more than 50 elo between programs with many games. I wonder if sloppy is going to be different. As Tony guessed, by "longer time controls" I meant longer than the one Tony uses...

Re: Some sloppy results

Next time you release a version, I will test it with the new book. However, I cant change my time control. Do you have any plans to fix incremental time controls? I already have "sort of" fixed the time management. The fix will be in the next version of Sloppy. I say "sort of" because Sloppy will s...

Re: Some sloppy results

What time control did you use? Sloppy is currently very weak at "whole game in X minutes" time controls. I have that fixed now, but the fix will have to wait until the next release. I always use the same time control, Im+1sec. I used the book that came with JA compile. Yes, Sloppy seems to have big...

Re: Some sloppy results

Sloppy has an excellent bookbuilder, and it utilizes some statistics. If you build a good book for sloppy, it will add more than 100 Elo. With the book that I built, the strength is identical to ProDeo. I've now replaced the book on my site with a better one, built from this PGN file: http://cvs.ma...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

What I really don't understand is people putting their name on defending this guy. He came out of nowhere, and he will go back there soon. They always do. They always claim they lost interest. It's actually the easiest way to recognize cheaters. They come and go within 2 years. How mean. I love it....

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

Because he crippled it. (ie "found out" new best things) The rest, the structure is the same. He just replaced things. In assembly they are even more alike, since the static functions get inlined. I didn't create a Fruit clone and then change things to cripple it. I created a new 100% original engi...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

As to whether it is like Fruit and/or Toga -- again be your own judge. In this case, the eval is the same and the search is different. Are you serious ??? I had a look at the Sloppy sourcecode and if you don't see that it's a Fruit rewrite by putting stuff into multiple static functions where they ...
