Re: Sloppy verses ProDeo 1.5: G/30 + 5"

Now that's definitely a positive surprise to me. Just goes to show that I should never test against just one opponent.

Btw, what are the Buch and Sommb scores, what do they mean?

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

"big collective effort with the goal of improving the state of the art in the algorithms for strategic game playing" Based on this logic the next logical step is simply to buy the source code of rybka in order to release it and help improve the state of the art in the algorithms for strategic game ...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

He forgot to mention C who gets something better than the rest and is commercial. I forgot it because it's not relevant. I do not mind open source as a concept but I hate and will fight until my dying breath strong open source. Sounds like you really enjoy life. Where do you draw the line? Personal...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

But chess is a game, namly a strategy board game as many other games too. It's a competition between programmers and her babies. So, the basic idea behind GPL doesn't work very well here. I sorta agree, but I'm not here to compete. If I was, Sloppy would probably be binary-only. I do want to ...

Re: Sloppy 0.1.1 released

Thank you very much for the answer ! No problem. When you say that some search features are well known, ok, but they are not at all easy to implement! True. When it comes to search features, I actually found academic papers and discussions here a lot more useful than any source code. I agree as you...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

Just look on older engines like Quark. I don't wanna know how much hours, days, months or years Thomas spend on his evaluation terms. That is the whole point of the GPL: 1. Developer A spends years developing and optimizing feature X. He wants to contribute to the open source community so he releas...

Re: Sloppy 0.1.1 released

Hi, if you allow me to ask a question, I wonder if you just copied the Fruit eval (I know you said you changed the terms) ? or did you borrowed other things from Fruit or others programmes, especially concerning the search, extensions, null move,...? This question may look naive but I'm curious to ...

Re: Sloppy 0.1.1 released

It makes sense in games where Sloppy might have to move extremely fast. However, even with one second to move, printing the full pv shouldn't affect things too much. It was specific for the Arena GUI. Uri had a huge jump in strength for Movei on bullet games just by not printing the PV very often, ...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

But I have no problem with Sloppy and its honest author, everybody can decide wether he wants to use Sloppy or not. Best, Alex True...I agree. It is in full sight and that he hides nothing. Why he needs the Fruit/Toga eval is the part I dont get? If he wanted to enter serious competition that would...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

well, I haven't had only you in mind, so not everything was related to you in particular. Anyway I'm not happy with all this fruity stuff we saw lately and the general worship about it. Thats what I did want to express... Sorry if you feel attacked, that wasn't my intention... well, maybe just a li...
