Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

is there clones between commercial engines or clones breed just between free engines? Closed source engines have been cloned as well. It's hard, but not impossible to decompile them. Those programs are of course illegal because they violate the copyright of the original program. Then there are clos...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

In our view the two things that define a chess program are its eval and its search . Who do you mean by "our"? Seems to me that there are quite a few differing views here. And why is it that the most unoriginal parts define the chess engine? Pretty much all engines these days use minimax search wit...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

Seems to be common sense now to start with something fruity, pour in some toga, mix it up with some own idea to not be too strong in the beginning and finally present it as something genuine. Yeah, that would be wrong. But that's not what I've done. If all I wanted was to sneak a Fruit/Toga clone i...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

I am sure that for the values of these tables there are not very much sensible choices so sooner or later there will be identical tables in a lot of chess programs if the authors don't want to make them play badly intentionally. I hope so Gabor. The door is open. Much of Sloppy is ok. Why he would ...

Re: Sloppy 0.1.1 released

Uri can help you better, he said that he did something to make his engine print less info in fast games, that way the engine uses more time on search/eval. Where is Uri when we need him, I have no clue what I am talking about. It makes sense in games where Sloppy might have to move extremely...

Re: Sloppy 0.1.1 released

At my time controls, sloppy is still lagging behind Bugchess after around 80 games. May be my time control (1m+1sec) is too fast for sloppy... It's very likely. I haven't done proper testing with the "whole game in X minutes" time control. The time Sloppy allocates for each move is roughly "(time_l...

Re: Sloppy 0.1.1 released

Sloppy 0.1.1 win32 Intel compiler 10 pgo build Thanks! I've uploaded the binary to my site. I was waiting for the release of this version. Let's hope I have found a new comer that can out do bugchess. I just ran 100 bullet games against BugChess2 V1.5.2. Sloppy 0.1.1 (64-bit) got 55% of the score (...

Sloppy 0.1.1 released

http://koti.mbnet.fi/~ilaripih/sloppy/ It's the second version of my open source chess engine. Unlike the first version Sloppy 0.1.1 compiles also with Microsoft's compiler (makefile included). Configuration (hash size, etc.) is now also easier because there's a config file. As for playing strength,...

A bug in Crafty 20.14

Already posted about this at http://wbforum.vpittlik.org/viewtopic.php?t=6873 In short, the problem is that Crafty can't force a mate in this easily won endgame without tablebases: 5R1N/K7/8/3k4/8/8/8/8 w - - 0 131 If I give it enough time it _may_ win by sacrificing the knight to avoid a draw by 50...
