Re: 3497 elo Leela, possibly 4th best chess engine now!!

FIDE ELO does not define 0 = random play. That concept was not at stake when ELO was invented. Perhaps that could be changed nowadays, but I really doubt it will be.

Re: Leela will use Net 10480 in TCEC Div3

I doubt, that DeusX will be allowed to play in Div 3. https://blog.lczero.org/2018/08/07/mistake/ Ok, I think that settles it. It is a bit too radical, but understandable. (I would allow DX to finish this season, but I'm not the admin lol) Still, comparing learning approaches does have value per se...

Re: Leela will use Net 10480 in TCEC Div3

Gabor, it is very confusing yes. I believe they are using a 15x192 network in the main server (ID in the 500s) and a test network of 20x256 in the test server (ID in the 10000s), but I'm not totally sure. The 20x256 network is the same size as AlphaZero so, in theory, with proper training time it wi...

Re: Call to all Engine Programers to complain to TCEC

pseudo-code for alpha-beta is known for a long time.. any implementation is bound to be extremely similar to a previous one, if not equal.

if this isn't a problem, why should using two different NN be?

Aren't you guys being a bit too strict??? TCEC is for amusement only, and two NN, trained under very different circumstances, add a nice twist to this season. The shared base code situation is obviously borderline on the regulations, but the competition will certainly gain in interest.

Deep Junior had multiple crash issues in previous seasons and was discontinued. Hence, it will not make a comeback unless someone continues its developing and (at least) fixes bugs.

Re: how will Leela fare at the WCCC?

well.. A0 made it without opening book and without tablebases

but that sort of knowledge can only make an engine stronger. An opening book is like 10 million training games and having tablebases definitely saves neuron network access time
