Re: Question for Nelson Hernandez - TCEC power consumption

The power draw from the TCEC GPU machine will almost certainly be higher than from the CPU machine, but I don't know by how much exactly. Are you asking out of general curiosity or is there something specific you are interested in? Tom's hardware has some GPU stress tests. Depending on how good the...

Nose Breaker

I was just told that "Lomonosov" means "nose breaker". I have always admired that great work done on the Lomonosov 7-piece tablebases, and think this is a great name for them, although I know they were named for the university they were computed at.

Re: WCCC vs TCEC Chess Engine Competitions..

Way past time to get off the old anti-ACM bandwagon, Way past time to get off the old ICGA bandwagon also unless they reinvent themselves. Pretty sad comment. The main thrust of the ICCA (then ICGA) was to foster interest in computer chess. They STILL provide that service via the annual mind games ...

Re: Komodo MCTS

Hi Mark! Any plans to implement position- learning to komodo (MCTS)? Works fine for me in StockLearn, which derived from an idea of Kelly Kinyama, as far as I know, has something to do with kind of MCTS too. Marco Zerbinati (SugaR_MCTS) and Andrea Manzo (ShashChess and StockLearn) gave GPL- Code of...

Re: WCCC vs TCEC Chess The History..THe Feuds

Of the top three contenders, only Komodo has attended recently. Team K...does like it's paper titles. I've said that...it stirs up strong emotions, but seriously, it's either a nice vacation or a really good chance to tag 'World Champion' to the product - it is a commercial undertaking afterall. It...

Thanks, Mark, for the tips.
"set Syzygy Probe Limit to whatever size Syzygy files you have." But that is confusing. I have the 5-man and 6-man Syzygy files, so would that mean Probe Limit = 6?
You should set Syzygy Probe Limit to 6 since you have 6 man Syzygy files.

Re: Komodo MCTS

Thanks, Mark, I am experimenting now with ver. 13.02 with MCTS hash at 4096 MB. I will often analyze for hours with 35 cores. BTW, I see that default Syzygy probe depth is now 8; whereas 3 was what we had been using. What is best for very LTC? I set conservative values for Syzygy Probe Depth as the...

Re: Komodo MCTS

Tanks, LK, I increased MCTs hash from 16 to 2048, keeping regular hash at 4096. That allowed "MCTS ply" to increase from 30 to 35 on overnight run. How large an MCTS hash would be too large? It will depend on the specific machine, number of Threads, how long you wish to analyze and to some degree u...

Re: is LVA as in MVV-LVA useless ?

Looking at SF's code it seems to be ordering captures & promotions using MVV only + CaptureHistory, and according to this pull the LVA part is insignificant or even useless, unfortunately I don't have the resources to test such a -"is (such a) right here or should it be just (such)"- subtle differe...
