if depth >= HistoryDepth1 do LMR (History Reductions)
Thanks Ryan. Of course I now wonder what HistoryDepth2 means! The depth where you allow double reductions?

A win32 console (or win64 if your compiler supports that).

Seeking PGN/EPG/games database manipulation tools

Can someone suggest some good data analysis porgram that can look at big databases of games. Let me give a couple of examples of things I would like: Count the number of times certain moves (save Ne5-f7)in winning versus losing games. Count the number of games where a Bishop moved to b4, and show th...

Re: Improving history tables

Actually, I am trying to figure out how to extract the most info I can from the search of a move. Of course, most will just be limts and not tell you the true score. But if a move fails above beta, you can probably assume there is a decent probability the same move might again have a score of at lea...

Re: Improving history tables

I think one problem I have with history information based only on failing high or low is it does not capture inofrmation about the score. At one point in the tree a move might fail high with a score of lets say -500. Is this useful in another part of the tree which needs a +300 to fail high? Perhaps...

Re: Fruit - The End.

The 051103 version sure has a lot of knobs to fiddle with. Does anyone know what they all mean? Pawn duos seem simple enough, but what about "Hisotry Reduction 1" and "History Reduction 2" and "Move Skip 2"? If someone know what they mean, please let us know.

Re: LMR other conditions

I also cannot decide if it is good to reduce "bad" captures. Although I got an initial great gain from this, more games have narrowed the improvement to the point that I just am not sure. I envy Bob's cluster. It would be nice to have many thousands of games to test each idea.

LMR other conditions

Bob mentions giving up on using history margins to make LMR decisions. I too see varying results and am less certain if they help or not. Some conditions that have helped in some testing are not tio reduce checks, if a passed pawn is moving, captures or promotions (right now I LMR non-queen promotio...
