Re: Silly transposition table question...

I think most programs now only clear the hash table once, at program startup. After that, they use a replacement scheme that overwrites entries. Since my program might still have some root processing that assigns values on the root position, I use a "age" flag (actually 8 bits) that gets incremented...

I'm wrong then, Tord saved humanity after all. :)
You are saying that like saving humanity is a good thing. That has not been proven yet! :-)

Re: More proof of Strelka cloning

Might I venture one more arguement for open source? Search is something done not only in games, but it real world application that study geneics, economics and simulations. Releasing methods of improved search and evaluation helps other programmers refine things in these other applications. And some...

Re: Longer comments by V. Rajlich

You are incorrect about reverse engineering. That still comes under the copywright laws of stealing. Take a look at the post about clones. Whether you steal the code from the authors PC or you disassemble the released code and claim is as your own you are guilty of a punishable crime if the author ...

Re: Longer comments by V. Rajlich

From Rybka forum today (http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=1655#fp) : I just did put a few underlining of my own. Sorry to add a new thread but I think that this post by Vas is very important, probably more than any other post so far on the subject. Marc Hi, I got quite a fe...

LOL Vasik just posted something on the Rybka forum you should read: http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=1655#fp he says "1) There is no doubt in my mind that the similarities (in executables and in output) between Rybka 1.0 and Strelka 1.8 are not a coincidence. This is in con...

Re: Poll: Do we need a "Strelka is/isn't a clone"

My latest theory is Strelka is not a clone. The programmer of Strelka is a clone of Vasik and just happend due to genetic circumstance to develop something very similar! Evidence, compare these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vasik_Rajlich.jpg and this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Dominic...

Re: Is strelka a clone?

Maybe the best question to ask the author is "Can we send a copy of your source code to Vasik"?

Re: Is strelka a clone?

For my part I agree entirely with Uri. Note that having someone say that they have looked at the source is hardly as compelling as seeing the analysis scroll down on the screen in front of you. (Although I should say, although I believe Strelka and Rybka use the same code, I don't know which came f...

Re: The rumors about Strelka beeing a Rybka clone is still a

I doubt any author of a commercial program would release his code, but maybe Vas could release something that does not give away the whole thing. Perhaps header files showing dtat structures, possibly with things renamed. I find even the structure of moves varies a lot between programs. This might g...
