Re: Future of computer chess: 2 top engines?

For Vincent's recent tough problems list, LC0 solved one in a few seconds that bleeding edge Stockfish failed to solve in an hour using 60 threads and 65 GB RAM with full 6 man TB files. But it was SF (or other strong A/B engine) who: 1) selected this position among millions 2) proved solution Can ...

I dont remeber people saying NNs on CPUs was going to happen.
maybe they were talking about MCTS, not about static evaluation
GPU run MCTS, CPU NN run alpha-beta minimax, but static evaluation is not handcrafted

Re: how smart pruning works?

https://github.com/glinscott/leela-chess/issues/333 lc0 "smart pruning" = time management https://lczero.org/dev/docs/timemgr/ search time budget = target search time ÷ smartpruning timeuse factor . Re: Graphics Card

The speed of Lc0 is not the same at say 0.5 s/move and 20 s/move. I mean 2x faster hardware at any position or time control. E.g. GPU #1 is 5 knps after 1 min at some position and GPU #2 is 10 knps after 1/2 min on the same position. What will be ELO difference if run machine with GPU #1 vs machine...

Re: Graphics Card

Please point topic where Lc0 scalability (diminishing returns of speed vs ELO) were discussed.
How many ELO one would expect from 2x speed

Re: Hardware questions

I am somewhat confused as to the benefits of using a TR vs a Ryzen of the same generation 1a) twice memory channels = twice more DIMM units to install 1b) twice single DIMM capacity = twice more possible memory. With Ryzen 9 3950X you can build rig with 4*32=128 Gb RAM, With TR 3960x you can build ...

Re: INTERESTING Engines with Unique Styles (Unlike SF)

If you, by any mean, force SF to play weaker (e.g. 2000 ELO) will it become INTERESTING engine with Unique Style?
Will you be able to differ style of similarly rated engines?
