Re: Bmi2 and AMD

Zen3 promise 10-15% IPC improvement.
Maybe they will implement hardware BMI2 execution as a part of this 10-15% target

AVX-512 is set to be only in Zen4 (along with DDR5)

Re: What is the value of logical cores ( HT) for chess ?

So, for instance, I can set my 3970x at 63 threads going full tilt and still be able to connect remotely with mstsc. If I had all 64 threads going, you simply cannot connect. That's true only if you intend to run tournament and need normal process priority for fair play. If you don't run tournament...

Re: Which is stronger AlphaZero( 5000 TPU) or Stockfish(30.000 Cores)

With Lazy SMP fixed depth is not a correct measure of strength. Probably the 8 threaded search is wider to the same depth compared to 4 threaded search, and probably stronger to the same depth. Stockfish_20050217_8T - Stockfish_20050217_4T Syzygy 6-man, Hash=2048, TC = 60" + 1" RepeatStartPosition=...

Re: Which is stronger AlphaZero( 5000 TPU) or Stockfish(30.000 Cores)

Do you happen to know whether this is a fundamental problem, or whether improving technology might be able to solve it? If it's fundamental, it's a very big limitation. :( limitation on speed of light works at all scales. Though quantum computing can exploit different "working bodies", all current ...
