Re: Please, tune pawn

I actually distinctly recall reading somewhere ( Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy by John Watson iirc) that doubled rook file pawns are actually less of a burden then one would expect. In practice there are a few good examples of this, one of them being Spassky - Fischer: [pgn] [Event "Reykjavik-Wch...

Re: The strongest passer

Im not as sure that black has an advantage in the original diagram, the reason SF does not take on a4 is because he feels black is worse if he does so but thinks he sees how to hold the balance otherwise. White would never play c3 if black can reply b3, that would be completely irrational. Whites at...

Re: Stockfish now the best engine in the world !

Couldn't you just write a nice little app and bundle it with SF and make a little money with a 3200 engine? Maybe I misunderstand how the license works but as far as I understand this is completely legal. I don't think anybody is into engine programming for the money nowadays, realistically if you h...

Ironically it is also arguably the fastest engine in existence.

Re: I think my engines tuning might be off...

Hi Carl, Thank you for your kind words! I have been thinking about this for a while now and after some time I decided I want to release it including source at some point in the future. The reason I want release the code is less altruistic, but more to force myself to clean up the code :D . Unfortuna...

I think my engines tuning might be off...

But at least it's leading to some very entertaining games =) The following was played at a pretty fast time control (30s + 0.5s/move) as I was testing out generating checks in quiescent search. Nevertheless it plays a lot of similar moves at longer time controls as well. [pgn] [Event "Computer Chess...

Re: Blocking knight psqt

I'm pretty sure its from blacks perspective (black is winning). The info line contains a lot of information, so it might be useful for you to take a look at the UCI protocol information which you can read here. In this case you can read out the time directly as "time 8796797" is the time in millisec...

Re: Value of a Feature or Heuristic

This reminds me of what I found while working with some supervised learning algorithms. I recall adding noise to a data-set of handwritten digits (mnist, for those familiar with the data-set) in essence mislabeling 5% of the training data. Interestingly enough most algorithms barely performed worse ...

Re: Blocking knight psqt

My engine is very weak, but I find his main line and evaluation to be very interesting so I thought I'd post it anyways =) For comparison I let an SF version from sometime last year analyse the position for a minute or two. Re: Value of a Feature or Heuristic

Actually Alvaro is right, but it seems I indeed worded my question fairly badly.

That being said, I'm grateful for the responses I got anyways, they were a good read for me =)
