Re: 7-men Syzygy attempt

Regeneration has started for those with pawns using updated generator.
Better to discover problems now than later, when those files are regenerated, rsync can compare and update file time on FTP if something has changed, including the stats file.

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

One of my two machines only have 1TB memory, so now I let it build pawnful ones to avoid using the -d option. Expectation is that they will finish 5+2 pawnless and 6+1 pawnful in about the same time. Then I may move on to 4+3 pawnless and 5+2 pawnful. Eventually one can work on 4(p)+3 and the other ...

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

I think calc_mates() can actually be sped up a lot, but I have to figure out if what I am doing in my DTM generator would also work in the WDL/DTZ generator. It seems to be more a simplification than a speed up. Instead of verifying that an in-check position is MATE in calc_mates(), the position co...

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

So "Skylape Scalable Performance" is not so scalable? Digging into the specs and various tests shows that newer generation divided the memory controlling unit and made them local to cores, resulting lower per-core bandwidth but higher combined, same to LLC, this gives performance improvements under...

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

Was that on bare metal or on the VM? I was going to suggest you request a special build from VMware with the core limit increased. On bare metal. In VM the problem is still there but not that obvious due to lesser running threads and the way hypervisor scheduling stuff, but I tested it on an evalua...

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

Some more progress: All 6+1 pawnless tables are available, pawnful ones are currently being built and uploaded as well as the 5+2 pawnless ones, so far no occurrence of DTZ overflow, I guess those few are in 4+3. Hint: most calculation work runs quite fast and since there are CAS atomics used during...

Re: The secret of TalkChess

There was an episode of Southpark about the Internet trolls, please go watch it, it will enlighten you about the world we live in. It basically saying that everyone on the Internet are trolls, there is no justice because it's the trolls that made the Code, you just have to be a better troll and trol...

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

Jon: I think this is always possible. Even a missing tablebase after capture is fine because of DTZ resets. The dependency only affects the building process.
And all TB files are distributed individually so users can choose what to download.

Re: 7-man Syzygy attempt.

Jon: my goal is to make 7-piece tablebases available for all forms of usage. Syzygy is by far the most compact format. Hopefully this can be done within this year.

I'd like to hear what Ben Shapiro has to say on this matter.
