Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

I wanted to share one more thing: I understand that several people raised concerns about the event settings before we started - including Norm! I’d like to explain why I continued on with the initial plan anyway. As far as I personally understood, the warnings were that using ponder would result in...

Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

I find DrCliche attitude absolutely appalling. You may find me suspicious, but I think we might have here a strange case of Dr Cliche and Mr Grant... Strange case of two competent people in the same room I would be not surprised if you are talking here about a physical room What (if anything) can I...

Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

It would be interesting to see what happen in vajolet games because the version playing cccc is a really a big thread spawner. It create all the thread and join them for each iteration of iterative deepening Something like: For () Depth++ Spawnthreads ( Alphabeta ) Main alpha-beta Jointhreads () In...

Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

there is a link where all the game logs can be downloaded? just a note, game logs are not complete engine output because to save space arena is logging "a lot" instead of "all" according Norman :) I've requested the logs from Erik, who said he is looking into it. I suspect this will be the Arena lo...

Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

One last example of any engine getting borked by thread time allocation. The following are outputs from games played by Fire. You will see some empty lines in the output. These are when Fire's opponent reported a "bestmove" (Finished their move). All of these examples are ponder hits. So Fire contin...

Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

Also, seldepth=3. Max tree size is <= 256^3. Its not a ponder bug, its a hardware issue. Andrew, May I quote you from CCCC chat? A handful of engines (5) are randomly locked out of thread access, causing their trivial depth 1 searches to take well over a second, when usually they are < 1 micro seco...

Re: Chess.com 2018 computer chess championship

In my programming experience, the problem I had with my software were rarely hardware or compiler bug, lot of time they were software bug created by myself. Okay. This is not such an example. This was expected by everyone in this thread. No one listened. Unless you think that 5 engines all display ...
