First, "brute force" can still be alpha/beta, I guess brute force means no forward pruning.

We can try that with depth 6 or 8 or maybe even 10 I guess ...

Is something like a limited depth no-forward-pruning-engine versus a limited time classic-engine seems fine ?

Success of this technique probably depends on whether lower iterations help in move ordering by setting history values etc. If they help, then iteration right after one that returned hash score can actually take longer than all the skipped iterations together.

I have tested it (more or less) already in Minic a few weeks ago without success. Code is commented around line 3428. I took the idea seing another engine starting search at a deep depth and guessing this is due to tt usage...

Minic 0.57 https://github.com/tryingsomestuff/Minic/releases Not really any improvement since 0.53 ... A SMP/TC bug fix (thanks Graham ;-)) and some evaluation features but those last gives nothing against other engines while giving nearly +50elo in self test ... I was hoping that adding evaluation...
