Re: ShashChess

Hi.
Many thanks for the interesting question.
Clearly, Shashin's theory must be adapted to a chess engine.
If you sees the code, the position's nature is etablished at each depth from the previous depth static/quiescent position.
The initial position is "bootstrapped" by the three Shashin's options.

Re: ShashChess

Every position can be of type Tal, Capablanca, Petrosian or mixed type: Tal-Capablanca or Capablanca-Petrosian: As rule of thumb, if you set the contempt to 0 and reset any dynamic contempt, if on a position the engine like stockfish shows a score <-0.25 the position is of Petrosian type =-0.25 the ...

Re: Is cloning a hobby?

Is that true though? Are you saying this because it has a "tactical mode", or because you've looked at the source code? Because the source code is out. Both of them! I've not only looked at the source code, but even translated in english from dutch. Tactical part is more than what you illustrated a...

Re: Is cloning a hobby?

-how many people uses the engine and how long? Might be a bit dubious of a criteria. Both Houdini and Fire have been used for years and years, yet both are Stockfish (even now!). Or at least are Stockfish in their most recent versions. Houdini used to be something else, and Fire used to be IvanHoe....

Re: Is cloning a hobby?

Imho, simply a.clone is a no functional change engine from the original one. This to be rigorous at linguistic level b.a derivative is an engine developed started from the original one. Clearly b type engines are from the quality perspective. So, of course, the opinions can differ because it's no ma...

Re: ShashChess

Yes.
The goal is always the same: to increase the solved positions number without loosing in playing strength.
For example, latest StockfishNNUE is a lot stronger than Classical One, but this last solves more hard positions.
