Re: Xiphos 0.2.2

Milos - I'm watching Xiphos vs Ethereal in the 3rd game of Division 3 of TCEC. Xiphos speed is fluctuating wildly. In Division 4 it used to stay above 90 mN/s for the whole game but now it's up at 90 for one move and down to 40 the next. I have no idea whether that's a problem or if it's some kind ...

Re: Xiphos 0.2.2

Did you measure the speedup for the changes you made to node counting? It looked (at just a glance, so no offsense If I am off here) that you were using the same counter for all threads. That would be a slowdown. i didn't test that one separately, but that was definitely a bad choice. For Xiphos' s...

Re: Xiphos 0.2.2

Curious, which version is playing in TCEC right now? 0.2, 0.2.1, or 0.2.2? 0.2.1. the organizer was having a trouble with 0.2. I have to submit a quick fix so I didn't update the version number at the time (it is still labeled 0.2 there). in 0.2.2 i fixed a bug where after each `position fen` hash ...

Xiphos 0.2.2

I'm sorry for flooding the forum with an another Xiphos update. I decided to make an official release this early because I found a terrible bug when the engine is tested using the opening books in FEN format (for example, .epd opening books). This affects all the previous releases. The difference is...

Guenther
Agreed.
Will include it in the next (official) release.
Thanks everyone for all the responses and the help debugging some of the issues. :)

Re: New engine: Xiphos

A minor update: I've fixed a couple of bugs related to time control. Most significantly, in the version 0.1 the incremental time control seems to be broken (the patched version should be ~30 Elo points stronger). This is not an official release, and for the repeated time control the difference is no...

Re: New engine: Xiphos

Tested against latest release of Ethereal Ethereal 9.00 vs Xiphos 0.1: 471 - 255 - 274 [0.608] 1000 @ 5s+.05s +76 Ethereal 9.00 vs Xiphos 0.1: 182 - 97 - 121 [0.606] 400 @ 20s+.20s +75 This would have Xiphos (1CPU) around 2900 on CCRL. To be honest I expected your 3000 elo estimate to be a gross ov...

Re: New engine: Xiphos

Before and now: perft(6)=119060324, time: 473ms, nps: 251182118 (no hashing, bulk counting) perft(6)=119060324, time: 1333ms, nps: 89250617 (no hashing, bulk counting) Are you sure your magic version is not using bmi2? That 1333ms is exactly what I was getting with the bmi2 version. oh, that was a ...

I'd look for some variable that is of type int but should be size_t or ssize_t.
Exactly! I fixed the issue and updated binaries.
