Re: Fabien's open letter to the community

Once Fabien says that he has examined all the facts for himself and states that Rybka is undeniably nothing more than a Fruit ripoff and which versions this applies to (statements that he would be prepared to defend in a legal sense), I will be perfectly happy to personally stop testing those versi...

Re: Fabien's open letter to the community

Wow. I can't believe Fabien had just left computer chess for five years, with no idea about the claims being made about his engine. If he is unhappy about the possibility of Rybka being a Fruit derivative (as he seems to be - understandably), this completely changes the complexion of the Fruit/Rybka...

Re: Houdini 1.5 is released

Hi Robert Here's a bug with Houdini 1.5. I initially installed it using the Fritz 9 GUI and there were no problems. However, I then installed a special version of Fritz 9 for DGT boards. The functionality is still fine but now the engine window keeps freezing. Sometimes it correctly displays the kN/...

Re: CCRL/CEGT Hypocritical

Jury, do you have a theory on where Ippolit comes from, then? Of course, Ippolit was made from some version of Rybka. But not from Rybka3 - there are too many differences. Such modifications could make only the author of Rybka. I have no idea who released Ippolit and for what purpose. But without V...

Re: CCRL/CEGT Hypocritical

You make the false assumption that anyone would care what the strongest engine is. I, for one, could not care less. Come on HGM, you are really clutching at straws here. Of *course* people care what the strongest engine is. By your argument any national /regional / local football league table would...

Re: CCRL/CEGT Hypocritical

Ippolit, on the other hand, seems to be a decompiled code that comes from nowhere, published by 'authors' that do not want to divulge their true identity. If it was derived from a decompiled Rybka, that would make it totally illegal. Any work based on Ippolit would be based on _stolen_ code. Ippoli...

Re: CCRL/CEGT Hypocritical

The rating lists only hurt themselves by taking this approach because they render themselves irrelevant. I do not think that they are irrelevant. They may be irrelevant for people who are interested in the first place but not everybody is interested in the first place and people may be interested i...

Re: Dedicated Chess Computers

I understand the charm of wooden chess computers although I still feel that I'm almost there with a wireless DGT board and a laptop... For those who don't agree, I wonder (and this may well be pie in the sky given my ignorance of the subject matter) if it would be possible to program one of the iPho...
