Re: will Shredder be able to strike back in amsterdam ?
shredder should play without book. Sandro Necchi's books are of the highest quality. One book loss is always possible : other bookers do also work! Overall Shredder without book is at least 70 Elo points weaker than the same playing with its public book. And I think that the difference should be _m...

Re: Glaurung 2 - epsilon/4
Thanks to Fritz Reul and Volker Pittlik, I now have Windows and Linux executables of the new version available from my site . I hope there are no more serious bugs waiting to be found. Tord Very nice, Tord : no more bug and there are now 8 epsilon4 players at work on playchess ! Marc PS this is thu...

Re: Glaurung 2E3 : win32 does not work on playchess server
Seems to have a time management bug here (or a problem while communicating with the GUI). I tried the 32b win compile (2threads) from a WinXP pro box on the Playchess server. In both games I tried, things began normally with book moves then with a few Glaurung moves and then Glaurung stopped playing...

Re: Hiarcs not everybody's cup of tea?
No It is not correct that Zap is clearly better than hiarcs I agree that you are right here, but only partially IMHO. In fact the distance between rybka and followers is much greater than the one between Hiarcs and those which are just behind it even on 32bits single CPUs (see F10 or free rybka or ...

Re: Hiarcs not everybody's cup of tea?
It seems as if Hiarcs is not everybody's cup of tea. Hi John, despite those criticisms, Hiarcs is a fine engine, second best in strength only to Rybka. Good progress seems to be being made too if you look at the various rating lists (with the X54 versions being the only blip along the way). Hiarcs ...

Re: Rybka 2.3.2 is about 50 Elo stronger....
In a short tournament you need luck too, and everything can happen. For a while I inserted latest Rybka into my test tournaments and after a few tournaments it seems Hamsters was able to win about 1 game out of 120. We are talking about a *huge* Elo difference, yet the probability is not zero. Now ...

Re: Strelka will be open-source?
Please do take into account how much frustrating can be the fact that you do not master the english language for defending yourself... Even with a thick skin, this is really horrible. You can not even imagine how often I thought I should immediately react to some post ... ... and then I just realise...

Re: Rybka vs top human match?? Hydra vs Rybka would be bette
Utter nonsense! I've played thousands of both human and computer chess games. I've analized both, and humans win hands down for creativity and ingenious play!! Programs are calculators, humans create, machines don't, and the best human chess positionally and tactically are still beyond computers. C...

"is the new Glaurung program not going to be in shape in time?" It's in decent shape already, and won against Glaurung 1.2.1 on a single CPU in my latest test match. All I need now is a rainy weekend for implementing a parallel search... Tord Wow ! So you are advancing much faster than what you tol...
