Re: benchmark new smartphones:

Considering that the S8+ and S8 have the same processor and and general hardware specs it is strange to see the difference in the benchmarks. A lot of the benchmarks on this list seem exaggerated as my personal testing shows figures less than that published. I can only guess that testers are not adh...

Re: Is This The Future Of Chess?

The statement "At some point something will have to be done to return the human element into opening play. I don't think Fischer random chess (Chess960) is the solution, as the starting positions are too far from classical chess. Just imagine: we teach our kids to play chess by showing them beautifu...

Re: What engine see the Queen Sacrifice of Caruana game vs N

What i want to know is this move Nf5! impressive as it may be, is it winning? The consensus is that Nakamura blundered with Rb8? and that Bxf5 was needed, is the + 1 evaluation enough to win?

Re: World Chess Has a Big Problem - article from Bloomberg

USA global police propaganda. You are guilty of corruption if you have dealings with leaders of countries that have law and order in place that keep their radical segments of their population under strick control. Meanwhile USA locks up petty dealers that sell organic plant material.

Just realised that a Knight promotion can also lose if played badly enough so any pawn can lose. But in reality most games are played with increment so you you would have snooze to lose.

Re: You make the call..

This particular case is a straight forward conclusion that Black wins. Where this FIDE rule is taken to extreme can make a mockery of the rules are rules philosophy. I recall a game where the only material on board was K+B versus K+P and the side with the Bishop won on time. The player with the K+P ...

Re: The user Spacious_Mind is here?

Not sure if he is on this forum, I do know of a user with that handle on the Hiarcs forum. The last time he posted on that forum was back in March 2016 and was/is one of the top posters. There is a website that is run by by him ( think Nick is the name) just Google Spacious Mind Chess and you should...

Re: Why do engines lack mate solving?

I know from experience that those mephisto units from late 80's and early 90's would fail to find the mate when one did exist on some occasions.

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

Iphone 7 just announced, from reading about the processing power claims a 40% increase in performance over 6s. Think it has 4 cores this time so better for chess. Just hope that processors don't think that chess analysis is low priority and choose the slow processors.

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

How come Samsung decide to make a model of phone with different CPU. Some versions have the Snapdragon and others the Exynos. Is there any way of knowing what version you get before buying. I live in New Zealand and would hate to buy the S7 only to find out later that it is the Snapdragon version. T...
