I have a book on the St George (Birmingham Defense or The Incorrect Opening which says it all......) by Basman. He was one of those who liked obscure and most likely unsound openings. I would echo the thoughts of most that it is a "surprise tactic" opening. IMiles used it in a game against Karpov.

It is........wild to say the least.
