Stalemate "value"

Post by Ponti »

I was talking with a friend of mine, an International Arbiter.
He told me that he thinks stalemate should not be a draw, it could be more "fun" if it was assigned another value for it, for instance, 0.6 - 0.4 instead of 0.5 - 0.5.

What do you think ?

I believe stalemate was a win in the old days. It does make more sense to score it as draw, on grounds that one must not be forced to commit suicide with a move.

But then again.. what is zugzwang? ;)

Anyway, I don't think that will change.

Good idea, but I doubt it will ever happen.
Deasil is the right way to go.

definitely no; this does not take into consideration the most important factor in chess - checking the enemy king.

besides, stalemates are relatively infrequent and this scoring will only distort competition, stalemates happening on a completely random pattern, favouring a completely random player.

what if this occurs in a WC decider? the winner won with 0.2 points difference without delivering mate?
