Big discrepancy between Men's and Women's Prize

Post by Chessqueen »

No wonder why Judy Polgal was never interested in the Female or Women World Chess Championship Title, it is about four times less the prize of the Men's World Chess Championship for the Women's Title. At least they should make it Half the Prize Fund. http://tass.com/sport/1029092

The men’s World Chess Championship offers 1 million euros ($1.14 million) in prize money up for grabs, while the women’s World Chess Championship, which kicks off in Russia’s Khanty-Mansiisk on Saturday, has 250,000 euros (over $286,000) in prize money.

In Tennis it is only half as much as the Men's Champion prize https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/13/spor ... a-atp.html

In the USA most female professionals are making only 28% less in the same career as men's do Such as: in Medicine, Engineering, and Computer programming etc.... https://money.cnn.com/2018/03/14/news/e ... index.html

I guarantee that if the wife or the daughter of a future FIDE president ever makes it to compete for the Women's World Chess Championship the Prize will change immediately.

Nobody cares about women chess championship because in men's terms, that's equivalent to some regional tournament in IM range. That's also why the championship took place in Iran - that was the only country to care at all.

Easy tip: want the same money? Then play the same level of chess.

There is no gender paygap once you adjust for working more part time, and leading positions are never for part time. If you could get the same work cheaper from women then from men, companies would fire men, hire women instead and outprice any companies that don't follow.

That is wrong to think like that since in Tennis Women do NOT play at the same level as men either, but get paid at least 65% the amount of what men do get paid NOT 25% like in Chess. Like I said if in the future either the Wife or daughter of the FIDE Chess President participate the amount would be higher immediately. What about when Judy Polgal was playing at the same level back in the 90"s, the women's prize was never raised, to encourage her to become women Chess Champion.
In Tennis it is only 65% as much as the Men's Champion prize https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/13/spor ... a-atp.html

Another thing to notice is that 26+ years the prize for men has been stagnated, since Anand made as much or more playing against GM Topalov than what Magnus Carlsen will make in London, and Bobby Fischer was the only one to force organizer to give more to the players and less for themselves back in 1992 he made 3.6 millions and Spassky the rest of 5 millions Dollars. That is exactly 26 years ago.

You can claim that Bobby Fischer was a little crazy by the way he expressed himself, but you have to give him credit for being one of the greatest negotiator in Chess history who did NOT settled for a small amount, either was Casius Clay the Boxer. If you want to create attention and get paid what you deserve once you make it to the top, you have to TALK a lot Like Fischer and Muhammad Ali did in their era.

There is a much bigger discrepancy in US basketball players.. From http://theconversation.com/the-case-for ... ies-100805
we have this:
"Last year, the average WNBA salary was US$71,635, and this year appears to be closer to $75,000. The maximum veteran salary is $113,500.
Meanwhile, for the upcoming NBA season, the minimum salary of a professional NBA player is $838,464."

The current average NBA salary is $6.2 million, according to this link:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenh ... 2d237a1050

So, if we take the ratio of the averages, it is:

6200000/75000 = 82.67 to 1

So the average NBA player makes an average of about 83 times as much as a WNBA player.

I guess the women's chess players would be a little steamed if that was the ratio for them.

Judit Polgar was ranked among the top men at one time. I wonder if the best current and active women's players are now as well. If so, maybe they should focus on the men's tournaments.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Tennis is different relative to chess.
Tennis is basically a physical sport so it is clear that men are better than women.

Chess is basically a thinking sport and it is at least not obvious that women cannot compete for the title of world champion(not of women).
Judit polgar was in the top 10 players in the past.

Exactly. What the OP is demanding here is that some IMs should be paid as if they were super-GMs just because they happen to have a vagina.

You misunderstood what I am implying. Which is that at least Women Chess Championship should be half the prize, but not as it is 25% of the men World Championship Prize, this is NOT about Vagina or Penis, but more related to the BIG Gap in Championship prize.
Another suggestion that could be implemented is to avoid the Women Championship altogether and create a Sub-Championship for player below 2700 to compete, and that would include Men, Women, and Teenagers as long as they are below 2700+ starting with Number # 43 ↑3 Matlakov 2700 in the www.2700chess.com

Wrong. There is no "Men World Championship". There is only THE World Championship. Every woman is free to participate provided that she makes strong enough moves.

Wrong again in Chess there is a Men World Chess Championship and a Women World chess Championship, just like in Tennis, and many, many more Sports. What you are suggesting or implying is that there should be a Sub-Championship for player below 2700 to compete, and that would include Men, Women, and Teenagers as long as they are below 2700+ starting any players rated below Number # 43 ↑3 Matlakov 2700 in the www.2700chess.com
