Download install.bat and execute it in different ways based on whether you have a GPU.
Also please don't just double click it as that will install scorpio wherever your current path is.
I recommend you open up a command window, cd to the directory you want scorpio installed, and then
exectue install.bat with different options.

I am very puzzled as to why people are having difficulty with installation.

Please please let me know what is not clear in INSTALL.md so that I can improve it

So far from this thread all I can conclude is that users don't follow instructions sorry.
For example, you complained about downloading everything that is offered, when INSTALL.md clearly says right at the very beginning to download only install.bat.

I will repeat everything from the beginning. Only how to activate the window that Mr. Daniel writes about. Is it about the cmd command, if so, what to enter there.

Open windows Start- menu, give in dos, an app called Eingabeaufforderung at German PC is offered, in English, as far as I remember, it's called command prompt or something like it, this one app started opens a console- window.

There you give in cd and the full path to the directory, you've stored your install.bat- file at, if the root directory at your PC was D:\ as you said and you have made a subdirectory Scorpio e.g. (to find all your Scorpio- files more easily) already, put your install.bat in there, then full path should read D:\Scorpio\install.bat
, so after having started dos command prompt as said before, in the open console- window you give in

cd D:\Scorpio

press enter, in console window the answer d:\Scorpio arises to show, you are in the right directory. There, at the again blinking cursor, you give in

install.bat

and press enter again.
Then the download starts again taking some minutes, after it's over you should have all the files needed.

In the new by download made directory D:\Scorpio\Scorpio\bin\Windows you have several files, one is called scorpio.bat, that's the one you now adress by dos prompt again like this:

cd D:\Scorpio\Scorpio\bin\Windows

press enter and then at the by console answered right directory at blinking cursor give in

scorpio.bat go quit

press enter again and make a screenshot of the console- window that arises after short time of pondering of the engine.
From there let's go on afterwards,

isn't a valid file- name. The one you have to download from Scorpio github- site is called
install.bat
.
Did you already manage to open console window? I guess not.
It's not the same like cmd- command- line, which you probably mean, it's an app of it's own and you start it in Windows by the app- name

, I just changed my language preferences to be sure about. You have to find this one app under this name at your PC and start it, then you have a console- window opened in which you go on with the syntax given in posting above.

Even if there are still some syntax- bugs (command cd/d... /install.bin is wrong for the /d and the .bin instead of .bat) in your text, but guessing those might have been typos only now in posting, the rest of the screenshot seems to work, so diagnosis so far might have shown, that the downloaded files don't work in console and my first suspicion seems proved to me, you need an added parameter for the install.bat command already.

If I type in console in my Scorpio- directory what you did, I get this:

As long as you don't get something like this too, the download of the files probably doesn't fit to your PC, I guess to you GPU.
Pity, I don't know, which one's the correct one install.bat- parameter for your GPU, and still Daniel only will be able to help.
At least I guess we know it's the missing syntax for the install.bat command.

I did the same like you, just as for install.bat I had in console

C:\eng\Scorpio\install.bat --trt 72

because my NVIDIA RTX3070ti demands TensorRT 7.2, most likely that won't be the case for your GPU.

What you could try, as Sylwy pointed out already too, presuming your GPU isn't supported at all, would be to install NNUE- only- version with

D:\Scorpio\install.bat --cpu --no-scnets --no-lcnets --no-egbb

That should work, if the problem was the GPU only regards

I had no difficulty getting it to install and configure using D:\Chess\Engines\S\Scorpio\Scorpio3_0_14d\]nstall.bat --trt 72 from the console.

I am using a Ryzen 5950x with an RTX 3080Ti GPU.



Have it running with Arena 3.5.1 and the Fritz 17 GUI.

Hope you eventually get it running Krzysztof.
