Would you buy a Mephisto Atlanta off this guy?

Post by Larry »

I'm looking for one of these machines, but this is a bit risky:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... Track=true

The seller has done *one* ebay trade, and s/he wants us to put up
good money for an Atlanta that may or may not exist.
Would you take the chance?

suspicious regards

but that just might keep the bidding down to a reasonable level
the Atlanta can go for Mega bucks

try making her an offer to "go around " Ebay

Hmmm. With an seller id called "bestdryer", does that mean you'll get taken to the cleaners? ;)

I do note, however that this seller previously sold a Novag Obsidian to another member of 5 years standing and 100% positive feedbacks. Judging by the feedback on that transaction, this buyer was happy. The ad for the Obsidian was pretty much identical to the one for the Atlanta (i.e similar detail and no pictures).

I should add that when I started out on Ebay 7 years ago, I did not have pictures for my auctions either, nor did I have the equiipment to create them. So I do have some empathy for the seller in that respect. I know it was quite some time before I could afford a decent digital camera.

I'm not saying jump into it, but personally if I really wanted one of these and they did not turn up often, then I would probably risk it myself. But I would only do it on the proviso that I was prepared for possibily an unhappy outcome.

Since you are in this 'business' for quite some time...
what is your experience..
What is the percentage or chance to run into trouble buying on ebay?
How often somebody really faked an auction?

I had so far only one bad experience, when the computer I bought never showed up. However, I do not know if it was the mistake of the seller or if it was lost during shipment (it was a cheap unit, so no reason to cry).

The thing I find most problematic is when people do not adequately describe what they sell. For example when they think that when they do not mention the chess pieces in the ad, that the buyer knows a priori that there are no pieces included in the deal.

Still no Bavaria in my collection regards,

Axel

How much is Mega bucks as I recently sold this model on TradeMe in New Zealand about 5 months ago and only managed to get $125 NZ dollars.Which equals about $90 US.I did not know it was so valuable.

i would opine in the 350-500 Euro range
on Joses great Ebay tracking site he shows only one previous Ebay auction for the Atlanta this past February

it raked in 400 Euro :

Good Dr.

well of course this is not my "buisness" and only a hobby
but actually i have to say i rarely encounter a problem with Ebay auctions or with paying by Paypal

of the more then 520 completed auctions i have perhaps less then 10 were there any issues at all...
when there were issues it is usually something arrives damaged or never arrives

but this is when i receive items from abroad and i suspect that much of the cause is US Customs opening the package and causing problems

i have about 20 in my database; the highest price was 282 Euro (i missed that 400 Euro auction; but there was only one bidder, so it might not be very representative)

Average seems to be around 170-200 Euro.

the last i had found, was from 03/25/2007 for 201 Euro: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0098728938

(and was located in my hometown  )

The cheapest was 99 Euro (10 bids); but that was back in 2005 (long before rantan1990  )

Prices might now be higher than 2 years ago...
