how much time to see the draw?

Post by Uri Blass »

This position is from my last tournament game

[D]8/8/8/8/6p1/1pBk2Kp/1P6/3b4 b - - 0 76

I was black.
I wonder how much time does your program need to see the draw?

Note that some moves earlier one of my team member told me that I can offer a draw but I did not want to do it because I was not sure that it is a draw(I was only sure that I do not see a win) and I was not sure that there is no practical chance to win the game(I think that being almost sure that it is a draw is not a good reason to agree to a draw).

The time control was 90+30

I decided to accept the draw after one of the team members of my opponent told me that it is a draw and that if I continue he is going to stop the clocks and ask for a draw.

I thought that I may continue and get a win in case that he does it but I did not want to win a game because of a mistake that is not a mistake of my opponent but mistake of one of his team members espacially after what happened earlier when one of my team member told me that I can offer a draw(note that in a game without increasement it may be possible to claim a draw in case that the opponent does not try to win by normal means but not with increasement).

Analyzing the position after the game I think that black had practical chances to win.

Black can hope that white is going to blunder in a line like the following

76...Kc4 77.Kf2? because white may believe that 77...h2 lose the pawn after 78.Kg2 g3 79.Be5 when white can miss 79....Bf3+ in the time that he plays 77.Kf2

I did not see the idea of Bf3+ during the game and I am not sure if my opponent saw it and he may be lucky not to put his king at f2 in previous moves.

In opposite colored bishop endings one side can blockade on the squares of his Bishop and you cannot drive him out. He can simply move the Bishop while leaving the King as it is.

Yes, this position show this, but there are some exceptions to this rule
in opposite colored bihops endings, unhaply I don´t remember
none now.
