Re: Collector's Corner..The Annual Tournament at Klingenber
That Elegance is a bit suspect for sure. Standard it is a 6502
running at 3-4mhz. They don't overclock to 14mhz. Try it and you
will cook the machine. Maybe it's not an Elegance at all, but a
completely different circuit board put into the Elegance case.
But surely they would have checked this. Or would they?
Larry
PS Admittedly, the Elegance took an add on module, bit it made no
difference to the clock speed, just to the opening book, AFAIK.

Re: Collector's Corner..The Annual Tournament at Klingenber
thats right
the add on modules only increased the built in book or offered a collection of Great Games which could be reviewed and played back
certainly no hardware changes
a quick review of the games the Elegance played at the tourney seems to indicate that even the opening moves the Elegance played is not from the standard built in Elegance book.. i havent really compared it too closely...yet..and even if i am correct the collector could have been using one of the book modules
i really admire this one particular collector
can you imagine the zest he must have for his hobby to shlep a Fidelity Eyeball Chesster Phantom Robot all the way to the top of the Bavarian mountains?:

but wait!
those are not even the right pieces!

Re: Collector's Corner..The Annual Tournament at Klingenber
What a sheerful atmosphere exhudes the place and the event!!!!
You can bet you would not meet such a mood in an engine-engine competition.
In this last case fights are of the order of the day, with arbiters called because one engine is using a machine 1 Mhz faster. Knives and pistols on the table, not good beer. Corpses are trashed every day in a parking facility.
No, let us go to the next competition, together.
I will take my Champion and get last place, but I will drink beer as an artillery officer.
Preparing my luggage regards
Fernando

Hi Jaimes,
Not very fast, but enough to analyze the games of our old dedicated friends!
It is a very handy computer; especially useful at those events, where you don't have much space available...
@Larry: The Elegance was modified by Mr. Bucke, a well-known Fidelity expert (maker of the EAG V11 68060). Maybe he used a WDC6502 or similar; they can run at 14 MHz and more. But they are not 100% compatible to an old 6502 and require some modifications (i'm not an expert regarding this)
And the Elegance was running with a CB16 opening module.
best regards,
Robert
It is a Sony Vaio PCG C1VE; it has a Transmeta CPU with 600 MHz (performance about PIII-400 MHz) running WinME.Jaimes Conda wrote:Steve,
