Win against IM on ICC

Post by dropster »

I have tried to do some training lately(been long time since I have played tournaments) with computer(mostly endgame training) and wanted to see if it had any impact at all(Somehow it did)

I think his 26 -, e5 was an error, at least positionally - but quite nice game.

Maybe I should try playing some tournaments ?

Of course comments would be appriciated(I can allways learn something new)

Maybe 12...Ne3!?. After Kxg7 you had the advantage... and were merciless!

Yes Ne3 is a good intermideate move which he should have playedm it gives white a poor pawnstructure. This just shows how important it is to look at intermideate moves :)

Also i did actually give him a chance in the endgame after 42 a7 he could have played Qg1 and then I had to give up the a-pawn because of the threat Ng4+Qh2 - just shows that i mixed 2 moves up I should have played Qb6 before a7

One thing that I dont understand is why engines also wants to plat Bxf3 - i dont think its a very good move - although it give a unbalanced position (N v B) any thoughts about that ?

Hi Kim,

Analyzing with an engine I realized that after 12...Ne3 13. fxe3 (?!) is not forced. White does have a counter-intermediate move with 13. Qc1 !? with ideas of Qh6 and Ng5. I'll let you analyze it carefully but it might be better than allowing the doubled pawns.

[D]1rbq1rk1/1p2ppBp/p2p2p1/2n5/2P5/1P2nNP1/P3PPBP/R1Q2RK1 b - - 2 1

Now for the bishop vs knight exchange:

[D]1r1q1rk1/1b2pp1p/3p2p1/1pn5/3Q4/1P3NP1/P3PPBP/2RR2K1 b - - 5 1

I do think it is a sensible move, it is possible that given the pawn structure the remaining black knight might be as good as your bishop. I'm not sure 25. f4 works here (I guess the planned follow-up was Bf3 and e4) because 25...Qe6 (eyeing for Qh3 and Ne4) looks good for black, instead of 26...e5? as you pointed out!

Good luck for your games I hope you'll be able to beat a GM soon!,
