WinBoard problem

Post by kwlakey »

I downloaded WinBoard 4.0.0 and installed it. I have several chess engines already on my computer. How do I us WinBoard to run the executable files?

Also, there are 67 chess engines at this site for download. http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/html/download.htm

I downloaded several of them and there is an error every time I try to unzip the archive. It says, "The file is either damaged or an unknown format." Is anyone else having this problem? Is there some other source for these chess engines?

Regards,

At the risk of upsetting the Winboard community, Arena is easier to use and can handle both Winboard and UCI engines.

Well I've used both before in the past and you are right Arena is much easier to use.

You can use Tom's Simple Engine Manager for Winboard.
http://home.pacific.net.au/~tommyinoz/tomsengman.html
or mine:

This Winboard is nice:
http://www.ascotti.org/programming/chess/winboard_x.htm

It uses textures and chess fonts.

Try an up-to-date version. 4.2.7 for example. For windows Alessandro Scotti's version is fine

There is a fine Readme file and several websites which explain it.

Try to use a different extraction program like 7-zip.

The latest winboard 4.2.7b is quote :- "This installer is reported to work on Vista and should also work more smoothly than the old one on other versions of Windows." From http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard.html

There is detailed info on that site on how to set up winboard with crafty for example.
