1.Bf6!! wins outright!
Seems to be tough to find....
[D]r1b1r1k1/p2q1ppp/np2n3/3p1NBQ/8/6PB/P4P1P/1R2R1K1 w - - 0 1
1.Bf6!! and then:
-1...gxf6 2.Qh6!! Nc5 3.Rbd1 1-0 (For example after 3...Qc7 4.Rd4! 1-0)
-1...g6 2.Qh6!! Nc5 3.Rbd1 1-0
Generally the theme Rbd1->Rd4!->Rexe4 wins all the time.....

Re: Bf6!! difficult move....
I don't know. I was just playing with some positions yesterday from my testposition database and saw this position. Usually i write from what game it is but in this position there was no comment. Perhaps it is not from a real game but it seems it actually is.....Terry McCracken wrote: Who are the players, dates, etc.?
Tonight i will search the game, if you so much insist to know from where it came.
Note that i've checked many programs and most fail to find 1.Bf6!! and 2.Qh6!!.
Crafty 20.14 for example, even after forcing the 2 tough moves 1.Bf6!! and 2.Qh6!! makes a lot time to see the winning 3.Rbd1(3.Qxf6 wins too after 3...Ne4 4.Rxe4! dxe4 5.Bg4!).
I was surprised to see that it makes 2:27 min to see that 3.Rbd1 is a good move. Actually it is completely crushing for white that wins 2 moves later.
What i mean is that it's so devastating for black that it should find it after 10-20 seconds. But....
Right now it shows for 3.Rbd1 a +3.41 after 6:28 min on 15 ply, but after 35 min it still hasn't finished the 15th ply and still calculates. Will this be a huge fail high or something bad happened?
If it makes so much time to see a clear win after forcing 1.Bf6!! and 2.Qh6!! then i have no hope it could find any of the moves 1 or 2....
(In my computer all that, perhaps newer Crafty in a 8-CPU will find all that.)

Great ending!

>>>1.Bf6!! and then:
-1...gxf6 2.Qh6!! Nc5 3.Rbd1 1-0 (For example after 3...Qc7 4.Rd4! 1-0)
I see now that you already posted the same variation that I found...
Very Good..
At move 4...Rd4, it is a forced mate in 9...
so says Ruffian 1.0.5.......
I doubt that any program finds............. 1. Bf6....etc.

Programs are dumb...but they're tireless. That's why I say they are not as strong as strong GM, but they don't tire, they don't blunder, but niether does a simple calculator. Is a calculator better at maths then mathematicians? Of course not.rightrook wrote:>>>1.Bf6!! and then:

I insist! If you have the time and can find out who played this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Now we shouldn't generalize, eh? In addition to being as dumb as a coconut, my programs do tire and blunder more often than not, which as you can imagine is a difficult feature to put in!Terry McCracken wrote:Programs are dumb...but they're tireless.
