Yet another one I can't get without human assistance:

"Re3!! wins! Other moves draw."
[D]4R3/3p4/KB1P3p/7P/8/p5pP/Pp3npb/1R3nkq w - - 0 1

What happens after 1. Re3 Nd1! (other moves lose right away)?

This is wrong and the right solution is Re6

easy problem for computers because it is a forced mate and programs can easily find forced mates.

I can add that I posted in page 3 of this thread some analysis

Look at the bottom of the page : http://members.aol.com/MuellerLamprecht ... hengl.html

Test 6 Original by John Nunn

This position is extremely complex. The reason is that the pawns are not yet fixed, and Black can still choose between various possibilities for arranging his pawns. Each arrangement gives rise to a network of corresponding squares, and White is not sure which network is going to arise. In order to understand the play, it is necessary to analyse first the positions in which Black has committed his pawns. The two key positions are given as Z1 (in which Black plays ...f5) and Z2 (in which Black plays ...h5) below.

You're right about a forced mate starting with 1. Re6, but I think the actual mate is a move shorter than you said. As you walk through the line you posted, you'll see it.

You're right, there's a forced mate with 1. Re6! (but one move shorter than you posted, I think).

I wonder if 1. Re3 can also win...

Could someone post a corrected version of this test pack, please ?
Thanks, Vincent.

Perhaps in engine-human or engine-engine they are close to it, although i disagree in this too, but in solving testpositions they have many many things to learn more.....

It can. After the 1...Nd1 you proposed, we have the forced moves for black:

1... Nd1 2. Rd3+ Nf2 3. Rd4 Nxh3 4. Re4+ Nf2 5. Re6 dxe6 6. d7 e5 7. d8N e4 8. Ne6 e3 9. Nf4 e2 10. Nxe2# 1-0
