None of the results quoted so far prove which version is the strongest.

You don't know which Fruit is the strongest? Not to worry, there'll be another one along in a minute - to further confuse the issue.

Well that is orignal :!:
Most people complain when _not_ being able to get a new version, better or not.

Fonzy, Do you really want any number of versions "better or not"? There'll be no time for you to play with them all and get to know them, let alone for them to be tested properly - not just for playing strength but for bugs.

So you are not a customer of Rybka I assume.

Reminds me of the following smiley.

no,not of all engines.I can do without all the 30 rybka (beta) *versions,
but i would never say no to a new fruit.
a new tao f.i would also be nice and spike and gandalf and ...waiting and waiting...

[edit] but i could not do without the free 1.0 beta, still the most intrigueing, flashing out its moves in a second and still wins :-))
I've seen the newer rybka's on playchess but they don give that _tornado-feeling_ anymore.

a group of testers try to find out WHICH version is promising.
the programmer than sees which new algorithm is useful.
he can then finish the promising version.

if you are interested which fruit is the best take a look in my tournaments.

here you see fruit versions playing against other software in 4 tournaments on 4 machines.

you still can't conclude from those games which version is the best.

No, it's Mathematics.

The difference between
2: Fruit2.3.3g [focus1_pruningmore] 44,5/70
and
4: Fruit-051103 [claudio fabiano] 43,0/70

is not significant enough for you to conclude that Fruit 2.3.3g is stronger than Fruit-051103.
