Which is the maddest, craziest engine?
It must be stable and usable for infinite analysis within ChessBase; so probably UCI, preferably not WB.
I have all the strong engines I want: Rybka, Zappa, Shredder, Hiarcs...
Now I want something with its own logic and very individual playing style.
Not too weak, just too wild.

Aggressive engines that spring to mind are earlier Juniors, The Baron (1.7.0 more so than 1.8.1), Amateur 2.82 and Sage 2.2a.
I'm sure there are others I can come up with after further thought.

CS-Tal is great fun to play against. Ed Schroder once said that it felt more like a game of poker than a game of chess.
Writing is the antidote to confusion.
It's not "how smart you are", it's "how are you smart".
Your brain doesn't work the way you want, so train it!

Neither UCI nor Winboard, so I doubt if the OP can use it.towforce wrote:CS-Tal is great fun to play against. Ed Schroder once said that it felt more like a game of poker than a game of chess.

Yes Junior 7 was crazy.Graham Banks wrote:Aggressive engines that spring to mind are earlier Juniors, The Baron (1.7.0 more so than 1.8.1), Amateur 2.82 and Sage 2.2a.

Quark 2.35, Tao 5.3 but we should not forget Chessmaster(The King) engine, that can be parameterized to produce personalities with amazing (attacking) styles!

YES! He replied.....

Using Wb2Uci you can have a Winboard engine to play under Chessbase GUI easily and analyze easily and engine to be stable.Marek Soszynski wrote:Which is the maddest, craziest engine?

'Mad' and 'crazy' are hard to quantify.
These are the strongest UCI engines with 4 CPUs:
Rybka 2.3.2a 64 4CPU
Zappa Mexico X64 4CPU
Deep Shredder 11 x64 4CPU
Naum 2.2 x64 4CPU
HIARCS 11.2 MP 4CPU

Quark is Winboard and not UCI.George Tsavdaris wrote:Yes Junior 7 was crazy.Graham Banks wrote:Aggressive engines that spring to mind are earlier Juniors, The Baron (1.7.0 more so than 1.8.1), Amateur 2.82 and Sage 2.2a.

I do like Quark's style and my favorite computer chess game of all time was Quark verses Pharaon (or maybe it was Zchess, but for sure it was a Frank Zibi engine). It was even an Orangutan game.

I would say that later versions of Junior are rather crazy too
