How long will the tournament go? Is it ok if I leave the computer unattended for some periods of time?CRoberson wrote:The 2008 ACCA President's Tournament will be on April 19.
It is limited to engines whose authors reside and/or have
citizenship in any country of the Eastern hemisphere.
It will be a one day blitz tournament.
Registration and info pages can be found here:
http://www.taccl.org/ACCAPresidentsTour ... dents.html
Later today, I'll announce the date of the 2008 World Computer Rapid Chess Championships which will be open to all authors world-wide.

Being a blitz tournament at G/4 +3, it should be fairly short.
Especially, considering we are likely to have less than 20 participants.
Yes, it is ok if the computer is unattended for some of the time. Your
risk is only if the program or computer crashes. If so and it is not
back online, you forfeit the round but not the tournament.
If we only have 10 entrants we may have a double
round robin (play each entrant twice - once with each color) event.
A guess at time: Lets assume 16 entrants and lets assume a single
round robin event. At G/4+3, the average time per game is 14 mins.
There would be 15 rounds producing a tournament taking approximately
3 hours and 45 minutes.
It would be great to see Gaviota entered and you also in attendance.
Even if, you are not online the entire time.

Hi Miguel,
Also, you could have an operator. Then be online yourself for the
time that you can.

Getting a trial account would be ok? (7 days apparently in ICC)CRoberson wrote:Hi Miguel,

How do you connect to ICC with Xboard? (or where to find this information?) I browsed ICC website and I could not find it. Is the information in Tim Mann's website updated?

Yes, get one right away and send me email with the username.michiguel wrote:Getting a trial account would be ok? (7 days apparently in ICC)CRoberson wrote:Hi Miguel,

The temp account form gives you a human account. I can have
it changed to computer.
Xboard on UNIX with ICC:
xboard -zp -fcp "Gaviota commandline" -ics -icshost chessclub.com
Make sure you put the quotes around your commmand line unless Gaviota doesn't require command line args.
Also, Gaviota needs to kibitz. Takes less than 5 mins to add kibitzing,
if you don't have it. Look at this web page:
http://www.taccl.org/kibitzhelp.html
Just add a print statement of that info before you make the move.
That will be good enough.

I don't think it is working. I signed up for a trial account and when I access to the account with the java interface I am informed that it has expired and they want me to extended with a credit card.CRoberson wrote:Yes, get one right away and send me email with the username.michiguel wrote:Getting a trial account would be ok? Maybe this is related to the warning that for a trial account only blitzin interface can be used.
The handle is: JLSeagull
I sent them an email but maybe you can fix it. Sorry about the trouble.
