Test Position: Rxd2!!

Post by swami » Sun Apr 27, 2008 12:25 pm

[D]3r2k1/pp1r1p1p/2p1nnp1/2P1p1Pq/PP2P1b1/2B2PP1/2QN2B1/R3R1K1 b - - 0 1

Does your engine find Rxd2? How long does it take?

Solution: Rxd2 with huge advantage for black.

Difficulty: Tough

Hint: the idea is to outpost the knight, divert the active opponents bishop and attack the white kingside with two advanced knights.

Bright 0.3a finds the move in 43 seconds, but doesn't give a "huge" advantage for black under reasonable time:

If the time correlation continues it seems Bright would need at least 22 minutes to show the big evaluation on my computer.

Does your engine find Rxd2? How long does it take?

Solution: Rxd2 with huge advantage for black.

Difficulty: Tough

Hint: the idea is to outpost the knight, divert the active opponents bishop and attack the white kingside with two advanced knights.
Do you have the game score?

Do you have the pgn or a link to the game? Yes Rxd2!! is completely winning and computers have a lot of trouble seeing this.

Hi Terry,

Sorry for the delay,I have had a pretty hectic work, so was not around for a while since yesterday.

I don't have a full pgn, except the position and few comments.
But here is some info:

Event: Ukraine
Year 1993
Balashov, Sergey vs Yandemirov, Valeri

Perhaps you could google this bit of info to get the whole pgn.

Regards.

I haven't been able to locate the game as of yet. If I find it I'll post it.
