Pocket Fritz 3

Post by pedrox »

Pocket Fritz 3 is playing in Argentina the tournament Mercosur Cup 2008. It can be found information in Chessbase (Spanish), now 2/2.

http://www.chessbase.com/espanola/newsd ... sp?id=6216

In last year's edition (2007) Pocket Fritz 3 failed and only was on 4 th position (5.5/10), probably by this, Chessbase did not launch the program to market.

This year the program seems stronger and on the Web talk about one of its programmers "Stanislav Tsukrov".

The surprise is that Pocket Fritz is now Hiarcs 12. You can read in the website

http://www.ukgamesshop.com/Merchant2/me ... gory_Code=

"PocketFritz 3 is the ultimate mobile chess companion, ready to play anywhere and anytime. It may be small in size, but its playing strength is gigantic. Its brand-new chess engine, developed by Mark Uniacke, has a well-balanced positional style with fi rst-class tactical strength. PocketFritz 3 is considerably stronger than its predecessor – the estimated playing strength is 2550 Elo!"

"You can also install other chess engines, apart from Hiarcs and Crafty, which are part of the PocketFritz 3 package"

I hate what chessbase is doing.
Why they use the name Fritz when it is another program.
first Shredder and now hiarcs.

I think that it is better simply to decide that it is illegal to use the name Fritz for programs that are not Fritz.

An advertisement should not give the customer wrong impression and calling the program Fritz simply gives the customer wrong impression.

Agree. It's rather ironic that people have been asking for a pocket pc hiarcs for ages... and it will be called Fritz!

I wonder what the other engines are. Apart from engines, it sounds pretty much the same as PF2.

There is a very good possibility that CB will release a Rybka Pocket Chess ... now if that will be called Pocket Fritz 4 ... I don't know.

Interestingly, these commercial engines are inferior to the freebies.

The PDA platform is just a different platform to conquer.

I don't think so. PDA programs can't exploit certain weaknesses like humans can.
Chess Genius is probably much stronger against humans than Gromit or Majestic Chess.
