software is another thing. Literature, by example. Or chess engines. But when it came to make solid things, the boys better prefered to copy...
It was a matter of making cheaper things instead of developping at a cost.
It was part of a doctrine. Capitalism was condemned to provide not only the rope to hang himself, but the chess hardware...

as long as we cannot reroduce SC2 games with Fidelity machines, we cannot conclude it is really a clone.
so maybe this is still nothing else but a rumor.
we have no evidence so far that proves SC2 is a clone.

Karsten Bauermeister wrote in CSS 5/99, that it was the SC
1, which had the Fidelity program first; the SC 2 has been modified (not sure, if the CC10 program in the SC 1 was already modified)
No clones, but brothers?

if you steal a program from a foreign company, sell it in your own company, i would not call this brotherhood.
