How Many Chess Engines exist

Post by mhalstern »

The sheer number of Engines available, especially free ones amazes me.

I'm curious as to how many exist. We can make it easier and limit the universe to engines that are either WB or UCI.

Hi Marc,

e.g. you might look here: http://www.rwbc-chess.de/wb_chron.htm

this nice list made by Guenther Simon is one of the most complete lists in the web and currently there are 502 engines listed. It lists just UCI & WB engines (and one TMCI engine) - I believe that outside of the UCI & WB world we have at least 100 more engines counting also the oldies.

Greets, Thomas
