When Ivanhoe is using large pages, "Working Set" is lower than "Private Bytes":

You're absolutely right.
It appears that I've managed to compile the current release version with the Large Page support disabled. :( :( :(

For the people that intend to use this feature, I promise to release in a couple of days a compile with the large page support enabled (but otherwise perfectly identical to the current version). Hopefully this is the only gaffe of the release...

Thank you for testing, and sorry for the inconvenience.

You can permanently disable large pages by removing the "Lock Pages in Memory" privilege in the Local Policies of your Windows account. See the paragraph on the Houdini web page that explains about Large Memory Pages.

The modification should take less than a minute.

Thanks Robert.

Yes I've done this already. It was just meant as a "worst case scenario"
for eventual other users thinking along the same lines. :D

hi robert,

quickly running through your engine & while it seems to be an improvement, it also (as far as i can tell) still lacks the 'creativity' that it shares with its lineage (i don't believe any of ippolit, crafty or stockfish are particularly good speculative engines). do you have any plans to address this and/or have you attempted to do so with 1.5?

Robert,

Stockfish 1.9.1 is keeping up with Houdini with parity of wins. I notice that nps for Houdini 1.5 is about 50% greater than Stockfish.
Houdini is a very positional and aggressive program.

Merry Christmas

Main features are improved evaluation and search (by about 35 Elo), and Gaviota EGTB support.
Detailed information and download can be found at http://www.cruxis.com/chess/houdini.htm .

I've created a mailbox for problem reports, suggestions or requests, you'll find the address on the web page.
If you enjoy Houdini, feel free to donate to the development of Houdini. Donations will be used for purchasing hardware to improve the testing of Houdini and will contribute directly to future versions.

Cheers,

Well, if first results are any indication it would seem Houndini has a new aggression to its play, when you push it pushes back! Also, it's currently mangling Rybka 4.0 SSE42 x64 on my machine. But clearly, these are still very early results, so we'll see if Rybka can turn things around. Great engine Robert! Thank-you very much :D

Feature request for Houdini 1.6:
When there is a tablebase mate, list the full pv to the end.

E.g.
+M8 Nxb3

does not show me the full idea.

You can easily collect it on the last iteration by just making the suggested moves and calling the EGTB again until we have exhausted the pv.

Hi Robert,
If you don't want to put in this future version the LP switch (which would be nice) then the LP switch will be to use the new or the old version... :)
I hope LP now works even with WinXP (64-bit).
How can we see if LP works, and how much LP Mbytes we get (for that, Rybka uses a log, IvanHoe a .txt file)
