r.g.c.c was in the initial phases of becoming a vast wasteland. As the interenet exploded to the mainstream , there are people in the mainstream who simple did not care if they ruined it for everybody else. Thus ICD stepped up to the plate and voluntarily was willing to host the forum. I know Ed Bob and few others are considerd the founding fathers.

Not just Ed. Rolf basically ran amok in r.g.c.c and ran quite a few off. A group of us decided to start a new place where we could talk. Changing r.g.c.c to a moderated newsgroup is a long and cumbersome process so we gave up on that immediately... So then there was CCC...

Not just Ed. Rolf basically ran amok in r.g.c.c and ran quite a few off. A group of us decided to start a new place where we could talk. Changing r.g.c.c to a moderated newsgroup is a long and cumbersome process so we gave up on that immediately... So then there was CCC...

In the meantime East Timor is independent and member in the UN so that the critics against certain programmers were justified. The exact number of murdered people goes up to hundreds of thousands. But it's also true that computerchess cant influence civil wars.

What you call amok was the opposite. It was just using Freedom of Speech. And that freedom cannot be reserved just for the VIP and their propaganda. If VIP had just been some scientists but if business interests guide what is legitimate or not or what is politically correct, then democracy is in danger. That was the main conflict then.

It's a typical sideeffect of autocratic systems and their VIP that humor is dying out. It was the same ChrisW who called me (the absolute newbie and outsider) the "Pope" of computerchess. It's a pity that a satirical talent like Whitty is seen as a threat who destroys safety when by definition the internet with its anonymity is the ideal place for insincere games and innocent humor.

You cant be witty with Google alone. After computerchess left the usenet with its absurdity and sarcasms a big part of European culture had gone too. Since we have a membership that assumingly never saw a single theater piece by Dario Fo, much of the thrill is gone.

Who can give me the name of the following computerchess players?

Beware of a variety of the genetic fallacy. The reasons why something started aren't necessarily the reasons why it continues. The original purposes, intentions, uses, values, or whatever of something aren't necessarily its present ones. Remember this when anyone gives you a history lesson.

The only contribution Rolf gave to CCC was that everybody wanted to get rid of him on rgccc. He used to make long, senseless posts (even worse than today) and attacked personally several nice people like Ed Schroder, who even sued him.
