Well, don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Nakamura and his extremely dynamic style and ability to stir things up at even the highest level. I'll even add that he is almost the exact counter-argument for the comments by Khalifman and Svidler that playing against an engine is harmful to one's game. Back when he first became a GM, he was asked about his training, and he said that due to the lack of opportunities to practice against strong players, he played regularly against engines. If one looks at his style, there is NOTHING in it that suggests he tends to play to anti-computer play: closed, controlled positions.

Why would he need a miracle rated 2751?
He does not need a miracle to end up in the second or third position with such strong field of players, but I doubt that he will end up in first place.

PS: This is to get Mr. Derek negative prediction about GM Nakamura. But I see that you have the same positive outcome for GM Nakamura as I do.

Well, I followed the game and it is still not clear to me why Grischuk had to sacrifice a piece at move 18.
Simple....an attempt to complicate the position but unfortunately it backfired at him....

The sacrifice was more desperation than anything.

It's shaping up to be quite an exciting event with Nakamura leading the way by one half point. Judging by the last few games he's played, it looks like a new style of play by Nakamura. No longer the speculative gambits with wild opening lines, but more of a solid positional style, IMO.

It is in complete conflict with Grischuk's style to look for complications without a concrete plan. Actually, what he achieved with his sacrifice was simplification...
I think he could still have held the position had he not allowed the trade of queens.
Actually Grischuk is one of the best dynamic players who understands those vague "compensations" and "chances" as good as anyone, maybe except Topalov. He doesn't mind playing a super-complicated position against anyone.

Did you find any bad sacrifice in GM Shirov game vs GM Nakamura?

It's looking very interesting. Anand and Nakamura on top with 3 points. (Magnus is well back... but he's made late charges before).

It'll be good to see Nakamura play the wily Anand.

Magnus hit a peak some time ago. He has been sliding
down for some time now. He will have to start looking at
the strong player in this match and make adjustments.
Maybe next time he will be better prepared.

Good luck to all and may the strongest player win.

Gerold.
