Dear All

Post by Roger Brown »

Dear Members of Talkchess,

I am aware that several of us carry our passions on our sleeves and that these strong feelings cause us to describe persons with whom we differ in terms which are less than complimentary.

Personally, I defend your right to express yourselves in whatever language you choose BUT here, on this board, repeated lashings, spouting of "facts" and so on really take the argument away from chess and into all sorts of personal attacks where persons instead of issues become the focus.

Some of the persons who whine and complain about being attacked by others are surprising as they seem to be a part of the problem but that of course does not defend their attacker who is acting incorrectly.

This is a forum for adults, not children, so persons are going to going to use robust language and terminology in describing code, engines, tournaments, software etc. However the balance must be struck.

The recent hot topic on the forum will not be removed. It may require tidying up but let me state for the record that deletions are not contemplated. I am enjoying it far too much for that but if one or two or three posters insist on carrying out their own personal agenda then it will require some sort of intervention.

I would much rather not do that.

OK so i am a part of the problem as per your opinion. So i'm outta here until a different moderation gets elected.

This will please Wael obviously and yourself also, that you will get rid of my whining and my complains about being attacked and insulted as also of my report messages that were constantly reminding you, of doing your job as a moderator which is to try to keep things under the charter.
Which you don't. I wonder why this current charter exists.

This is a forum for adults, not children, so persons are going to going to use robust language and terminology in describing code, engines, tournaments, software etc.
So you tricked us all when you got nominated for a moderator.
Moderators among all other members, should follow these rules:

It was felt that a group where a full range of computer chess ideas could be discussed, and, if necessary attacked, without also making personal attacks on the deliverer of the ideas, would be productive, and might well encourage various well-known figures who were no longer posting in rec.games.chess.computer to return to the arena of discussion without fear of insult or abuse.

Thus, the Computer-Chess Club is a moderated message board which is open to the general public (known as "members"). Its purpose is to allow the members to disseminate and exchange information as it pertains to computer chess without the distractions of personal attacks and off-topic posts.

Once a member gains access to the message board, he may read all messages and post new or response messages with the proviso that these new or response messages:

1. Are, within reason, on the topic of computer chess
2. Are not abusive in nature
3. Do not contain personal and/or libelous attacks on others
4. Are not flagrant commercial exhortations
5. Are not of questionable legal status.

A panel of moderators has the power to erase specific messages that violate the spirit of the charter of the Computer-Chess Club, and to take, if necessary, suitable sanctions against offenders.

Members of the Computer-Chess Club are solely responsible for their own posts on the CCC Message Board. The only recourse members have against any legally dubious or abusive material is to ask and assist the moderators in identifying any such material so that it may be removed swiftly.

►So i ask you when Wael said 3 times that i got a free Rybka from Vasik in order to post good things about Rybka and protect it here, did it or it did not violate 2,3 and 5 parts of the main charter rules?

►I also ask you when he told me to shut up, he did or he did not violate part 2 and 3 of the charter?

►When he told me to go to hell? What about that?

►And what about when he told me i'm a nut?

►When DeVos said that CCRL is taking money from Vasik or Chessbase to keep her first in their list did or did not violated part 5 of the charter?

What did you make for the first cases(because for the last you were not a moderator) for keeping things on charter and prevent members from violating it? I reported the specific posts and yet you(plural) did not do anything!
The posts are still there. Wael is still able to attack and violate the charter whenever he wants.

You didn't follow the charter.
I don't care anyway.

So bye. Or later as you would say. Much later....
After his son's birth they've asked him:
"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

Hello De Vos,

Even though the poster has taken a number of shots which I will not dignify with a reply, it is still his right so to do.

Your comments are hardly charitable and, at the last, somewhat sinister...

Just for the record, we are moderators. We are not baby sitters. We are not protection specialists. Some simply need to grow up and act like adults, or just not act at all. Either works for me. :)

I have to tell you George
it seems a very high percentage of your posts on this board always include a call for someone to be banned
and it's not just the two you just now mentioned but i recall a third person as well you wanted banned for posting something about Chessbase that you did not like
i dont recall any member here ever publicly demanding bannings as often as you do

as a past moderator that always annoyed me because if you feel the need to demand bannings then that needs to be done by private communication with the mods and not publicly
your constant threats to leave the board if you do not get the bannings you demand only show you in a bad light IMHO
i know you could care less about my advice but i will offer it anyway
just take things a little lighter and not so seriously
i have been called many things here over the years..by so-called "friends" and foes alike ..while i was a mod and as a normal member..
sometimes you just gotta let is slide off your back and move on
