By calling him hellhound you are only flattering his illusion/delusion!
I am a DOCTOR of human medicine and I can see clearly inside his mind....
Ok,so he's a sick,soul twisted hellhound then or simply Vasik's dog

Dr. Deeb,

The chess content to insult ratio of this and other posts is disappointingly low.

Hellhound and dog are canine symbols which are easy to get for most.

I would like to suggest that you move on.

Later.

Rolf here we see your favorite program will play b4.
Rolf did you check this game with your Rybka before your post?
What is your point Rolf with this post?
Rolf what online translation software are you using to post here? you might want to try another translator, the one you are using sounds confusing. It could just be your choice is full of bugs.

This is not the issue!
Although Rolf addressed the issue to Martin in typical Rolf style, he did point out a problem. Black's 114 move Qd5 ?? will NOT be played by Rybka even using one processor, yet Martins log shows it searched this. I believe this is a slowdown that occurs in Arena from time to time. I have no idea why, but I have seen it occur with Rybka, Houdini, and Critter. I suggest this is what Rolf may have been trying to point out. Qd5 is a HUGE losing blunder that cannot be reproduced at any time control even less than a second, therefore, IMHO the result is moot.

Please take a look at the log file of the game which contains Rybka's output:

Code: Select all

info depth 13 score cp -85 time 39547 nodes 22902784 nps 579128 pv d7d5 f4f5 e6f5 f2f5 g7g8 a3b4 c6b4 d3e4 d5e6 f5f7 e6g4 f7f8 d8f8 f1f8 g8f8 h3g4 f8f7 h2g1 d4d3 g1e3 f7e6 a5a6 b4a6 e4d3 a6c7 d3g6 e6e5 e3d2 c7d5 h1h2 e7d6
This shows that Rybka found Qd7-d5 using a 40 second search totalling 23 million positions at a pretty decent 580 kN/s speed, and produced a 30 ply PV.

Unless you want to suggest that it's not actually Rybka 4 that has produced this output, the only conclusion can be that Rybka believed this move to be the best at the time it was played.

     Hi Robert Flesher.

You keep mentioning arena, but the tcec match is played using ChessGUI.  Any arena bugs would not be an issue here.  Somehow rybka thought this was best at that time, on that pc.  Maybe the hash content from prior moves, maybe the shortness of time, maybe we can not figure out why.  But it did happen, so we move forward anyway!

                   Take care

This was my point, but I give up, I could care less who won. I was addressing that Qd5 was obviously a bugged move than Rolf clearly saw. It's obvious! However, before I make some comments I will regret I will drop the issue. It seems to me once again people care more about results than the game of chess. Some people watch the game, others play it. It's the way it is.

This from Jeremy in open-chess:
Rybka 4 loves ...Qd5 for a very long time on my SP 32-bit XP VM. Only after 5:30, ply 14 in rybkatalk (so 17 in the real world, I guess), does it move on to ...Kh8. I'll wait and see what it decides after 20 minutes or so.
After 21:54 (ply 17), we're at ...f5. Anyhow, anyone accusing Martin of rigging the games, or blaming the UI for strange behavior, should run some simple tests. This is just how R4 works in this position.
Best,
Martin

Robert
Interesting discussion.

(1) Let me exactly tell you what I saw and what was on my mind: I just hat entered the webpage seconds before H1.5a expected move showed Nxa5, I looked around for a moment and R4 suddenly had played b5-b4. Wow, I thought, he must have seen a nice move on Q-side. I didnt even see in time that H1.5a played the strong Rf2. The eval raise a bit to something of .5 to .6 and I thought Wow again and asked myself why then R4 had played that b4 if H1.5 hat a threat on K-sides and could let the P on Qs stay unchanged. That already looked strange because remember Robert, R4 is the reigning Wch and almost never could be sacked in such a tactical position. With endgames, as Daniel supposed, the position has nothing to do, it's a strong K-attack on f-file and I doubt that R4 usually would miss the danger coming from the wQ on g4 so that Pg6 is fixed and helpless from a threat on f5. A computer usually can calculate this sort of positions better than humans. Here it's neither a sort of hidden and deep attack at all, that killed so many strong machines couple of years ago. I was thinking about all the information on the page when suddenly the wR appeared on f5 which was the threat already before R4 had played Qd7-d5 like a newborn kid!

That was the moment I became suspicious and I didnt even know that Qd5 couldnt be reproduced what Robert Flesher is pointing out. It simply is looking strange for a strong machine like R4. Then I went into the notation and saw that another threat for W was taking with the B on f5. But by playing Qd5 the plan Rxf5 is so terribly strong because now the bQ is also threatened on d5. Well, Robert, all that together made me believe that I had just seen something irregular and very weak from R4.

Another observation was the mistake (here I dont recall exactly if it was Martin with a variation or if I had seen it in the notation during the game.) that Martin mentioned the move Kh8 while I saw that the K was on g8 in front of the wQ.

Also this made me suspicious because it looked to me as if there was something going on what normally shouldnt happen.

I must admit that I thought that the games were automatically played without Martin always nearby.

Then I copied the notation into CCC and you can exactly see when I did this because I missed the continuation after the strange development.

Another detail kept my mind away from the problem with field f5.

I had entered the webpage when I was surprised by the number of many moves of the game (over 100 something) and the middlegame wasnt still over yet, so totally the contrary of what Daniels later tried to say. R4 didnt blunder in the endgame but in a position where the opponent could sac a R and then attacking the K.

I was thinking. What was this all about with these repetitions all over the prior moves. I couldnt figure the details fast enough because I was in CCC again.

My judgement or let's say hypothesis was that this couldnt be that R4 missed such an easy threat and therefore Qd5 must be a blunder of first class.

Note please that I write weak English and perhaps the readers thought that for me the strange move already was the very first I mentioned, the b4 move. And as I said the Qd5 I hadnt seen exactly at all. But then the Rwas on f5 and I saw how stupid the Q was now on d5.

So, I dodnt want to give new theories for all this because Iam not a GM at all. Maybe Qd5 was even almost forced. But for me as an amateur hell was coming down on Black after Rf2 and the attack later is relatively easy to see even for me.

Please do also trust that my message here wasnt a real threat against Martin. It was (for my English) more a question to all readers here. Therefore I was really surprised that Martin who is zhe host of the suspensive event was so much hurt by my views.

I dont know if you are a true chessplayer too, Robert. But what you write there for the tech details of the move Qd5 that this should demonstrate that R4 might have thought it all over and made the optimal move, this is a bit superficial to say the least. But again I am just an amateur and no GM. In combination with b4 Qd5 is a heavy blunder. It overlooks White's threat and attack.

Hope all this didnt now insult you in return, because H1.5a played strong and effective. Problem might be the GUI and possible your opponent. So, you dont need to make a new version for the rest of the match. IMO.

Since R4 remains the same for the rest of the match, at least I see a problem of fairness if you could change your entity in case it might come into trouble. I mean purely chess troubles.

I ask myself how you would react if R4 would be playing on the cluster and you with your 4 cores would be whipped off the board. But this is all in the hands of Martin of course.

Good night.

Thanks Martin, again very strange. His hardware must be from the 1960's
Let's set the game results aside, you run your hardware, and you will see my point. Qd5 is a strange move, that will not be reproduced.

Re: Anyone here who plays chess?? (aka Houdini "match&a

I think I see the problem! In this position what was played Nxa5 or b4?

If b4 was played, it was not the position the PGN gave me.My analysis was based on this position : this was clearly my error, my apologies! Damn you Rolf

[d] 3r1r2/3qbpk1/4p1p1/np2P3/3p1PQp/P2B3P/4R1PB/5R1K w - -

well actually this position

[d]3r1r2/3qbpk1/4p1p1/np2P3/3p1PQp/P2B3P/5RPB/5R1K b - -

From this position you can see why I was befuddled. Qd5 is a real loser!
