Common sense returns to CCRL

Post by John Conway »

CCRL now tests "controversial" engines including Rybka 4 64 bit and Houdini 1.5a 64-bit :D

In a sense, yes. As the engine origins of both Rybka and Houdini seem "borrowed" without credits for the author, testing both means that CCRL is off double standards. It would be neater though, in my opinion, if both would not be tested until cleared from the "borrowing". But anyway, it is a step forward in a sense.

Best regards,
Kaj

But I cannot find this page anywhere in ccrl if I go directly there rather than via the posted link. Maybe this page was mocked up intended as an anti-Rybka joke when the link was posted here on Talkchess ?

In the Medieval Inquisition-Rybka-forum they believe it!

See their "Malleus Maleficarum ( Der Hexenhammer)" by Inquisitor Fefix Kling...
as we all can see CCRL is deleted.

Since there was quite some discussion in the last weeks, I want to point out what we don't want to see here:

-Piracy (linking to piracy websites and so on)
-Clone talk (talking about clones, linking to websites where you can download clones, linking or posting games or tests of clone engines)
-Offensive comments (being impolite to other forum users, troll posts)

Such posts will be deleted, censored or moved to the flip side/drama llama. For piracy you are banned instantly (this means you can't post anymore, all accounts (also new ones) will be banned).
Ignoring warnings from the moderation and repeatedly starting clone talk or making offensive comments leads to a ban, too. Usually it's a short ban first, so you get another chance, but this may vary as the case arises.

For those of you, who want to check which engines are clones and which aren't, I recommend looking at the engine's appearance (description on the website, engine name and so on) indicates if it's an original engine or just a clone.
Piracy and cloning obviously damages the programmers, who work hard (some work full time) on their engines. If you want to support development and innovation, you should be against piracy and cloning, too. Felix Kling

The page is not mocked, it's usual page with live results that I've bookmarked since a long time ago:
http://computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/404.li ... t_all.html

Is there any reference to CCRL still in the Rybka Chess site? ;)

@Grahm: what do you say about this?

Sad day for chess when Graham and CCRL go to the other side.

Hi Gerold,

a rating list have to test engines.
Main order for an engine is to play chess and not which political reasons are in background.

For users very easy ...
User can load the databases from the rating lists we have and can delete dislike engines.

Each one can create with a good available ratinglist his own ratinglist.

In my opinion no reason to discuss about it because ...
A rating list have to test engines, not more not less!

Best
