kinderchocolate wrote:You sure? It looks exactly the same as the iPhone version. You're probably using the iPad verson, are you? The screenshots were taken from iPhone. Either the iChessPack author made another account for his software since Apple wouldn't allow him selling the same app with another name. Or, it's a scam, someone just uploaded the iChessPack screenshots, when you buy it, it's our famous Stockfish!!!!
You are right, I had not played with ichess pack for a while and forgot what it looked like. The screen shots in description match those of ichess-pack.I searched ichess pack on iTunes and can not find it anymore so your suggestion that author has changed name and account seems possible.

I just found a great free training tool, released a few days ago:

Chess tactics (iPhone, free):

Description
One of the fastest ways to improve your chess game is practicing tactics, and that's exactly what this app is. For the beginner or expert, this app provides tactics of all levels. It learns your ability and only presents tactics of the right level.

More and more tactics are being added every day, so you'll never run out.

Features
Take as many tactics as you want -- free.

Create your own tactics for others to try. Take them from your games or make up your own. Compete with others to make the toughest tactics.

Learn from your mistakes. When you get tactics wrong, you can see the solution, see an explanation for the tactic, and talk to others in the comments.

See leaderboards for the best users, the toughest tactics, and the most liked tactics.

I find it very entertaining and addictive. Plus there's no doubt it will make us tactically stronger! :D
It's free and totally functional, and I saw no catch up to now...

Komodo hits the App Store!!!
Today Komodo was released for the App Store under the name Chess Legends and at the very low price of $.99. That's a bargain for Komodo 4, and that's a universal app furthermore!

As I'm writing this from my iPhone I sadly can't copy/paste the description, as all the browsers I tried keep opening the AppStore's app instead of loading the page. So you'll have to read it yourself at this address:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chess-le ... mpt=uo%3D2

I tested it both on my iPhone and my iPad. It's a very pleasant app on the iPhone, with an interface that has it's own identity (for a change!). Sadly it's not as pleasant on the iPad, as the graphics aren't retina and looks kinda blocky. Don if you read this, kick the Interface's team's a** so they add some retina graphics on the iPad: as it is it's a disgrace to Komodo!

Still, at $.99 it's a direct buy for everyone! :)

First impressions of Komodo:

- The program is too strong for me. I lost my first game on level "easy". I am not a strong player, but I suppose a lot of potential customers are weaker than I am (1400 or so). Weak players like to have many weak levels.

- I lost a game on time. When losing on time, not only it is not possible to continue playing, but the game was instantly reset to the starting position, I found no way to recover the game record.

- KHET2X (laser game), by the same authors looks very fun. I played a couple games. I need a few more to get a good feeling of the game, but it looks interesting. Level easy is a bit strong there, too (1 ply search, apparently). But I could win in my second game:

My remarks on Komodo for iphone ("Chess legends"):

- board pieces on retina display look blurry
- engine plays without book
- GUI doesn't understand 3-fold repetition
- I lost to easy but drew grandmaster level (I'm a very very weak player)

Have a look at the great and free iPad version of Christophe Thérons Chess Tiger (it is an universal app but most of you should already use the iPhone pro-version?!):

You get 20 credits p.a. to play games against chess tiger. For each draw or win against any trainer level you get (back) one credit. Nice idea!

Lots of options, retina graphics... and basically free. What else could you ask for?
